To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HARRY T. LALLY, Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing at Alameda, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toilet- Bowls, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to toilets and has as its principal object the construction of a bowl which is novel in form, sanitary in use and is less liable to become soiled than the present type of bowls.

Another object of my invention is to pro vide an improved form of seat to be used on the bowl.

With these and other objects in view my invention consists in the novel arrangementand construction herein described and more specifically pointed out in the appended claims.

Reference being had to the accompanying drawing,

Figure 1 is a view in perspective showing a bowl constructed in accordance with my invention.

Fig. 2 is a view in section through the upper part of the improved bowl showingthe seat positioned thereon.

Fig. 3 is a view in plan showing the bowl with the seat cover partly broken away.

Referring to corresponding parts by the same numerals of reference, 1 denotes the bowl having the base flange 2 and roll rim 8. This rim is provided with the water channel 9 from which are small openings 10 to allow the water to spray the inner surface of the bowl.

The front part of this rim is extended forwardly as shown at 4 making the bowl longer at this point than the usual bowl. At the back the roll-rim is curved upwardly as at 6 and then rearwardly a short distance and across the extension 7. This provides a recess 5 substantially rectangular in shape the rear surface 5' of which is considerably higher than the underside of the rim over the rest of the bowl.

The extension 7 is provided with the opening 11 in which the water supply pipe is attached and from which extends a channel 9 to the channel 9 in the rim and another channel 12 to the bottom of the bowl. The rim around the recess 5 is also provided with openings 10 permitting the surface 5 to be thoroughly flushed.

Each side of the extension 7 is provided with ears 8 adapted to receive the hinge connections. The seat consists of two arcshaped pieces 13 which meet neither at the front nor back. At the front a metal piece 14. is provided which connects the two for. ward ends and holds them in rigid relation. To the rear ends of each of the seat pieces is attached the hinge member 17. This member is pivotally attached to the bolt 16 which in turn is held in one of the ears 8. The cover board 15 is made in one piece and is provided with a rearward extension 19 to fit in the recess 5. The cover has secured to it hinge members 18 which are in turn pivotally attached to bolt 16. It will be noted that the axis on which the hinge members 17 and 18 are movable, is back of the rear edge of extension 19 so that when the cover is raised the movement causes this edge to clear the rim.

In use, lid is of course raised and the re cesses at the front and back prevent soiling of the inner surface. The rim is also not liable to become soiled due to the fact that at both the front and back it is recessed. At the back should any soiling take place on surface, 5 is flushed off in the regular manner.

I have thus provided a toilet which effectively accomplishes the objects outlined at the beginning of this specification, and yet is simple in construction. While I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention it will be understood that changes may be made in minor details and features of design Without departing from the spirit of the invention.

What I claim as new and wish to cover by Letters Patent is 1. A toilet bowl, a roll rim around the up per edge of said bowl, said rim being curved upwardly and rearwardly and provided with a recess at the back of said bowl, the rear surface of which is above the plane of the bottom of the main portion of the rim, and a pivotally supported lid having a tongue extending into said recess.

2. A toilet bowl, a roll. rim around the up per edge of said bowl, said rim being curved to form recesses at the front and back of said bowl, a seat comprising two parts separated at the front and back, a lid, a tongue on said" lid. extending into said back recess, and a hinge connection for said seat and said lid.

3. A toilet bowl, rearward extension having its upper surface above the top of said bowl, a recess extending from said bowl into said extension, said rim extending said cover attached tosaid ears.
