MARY R. GEYER, OF WILIHNSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
IRONING-BOARD Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed November 9, 1908.
Serial No. 461,640.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARY R. GEYER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at lVilkinsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ironing-Boards, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to ironing boards, and more particularly to a novel fastener for securing a cloth upon the ironing board, whereby a smooth and uninterrupted surface will be provided for sad irons.
The primary object of my invention is to provide a simple and durable fastener for detachably holding a cloth upon a board in a taut condition. The cover being quickly removed when it is desired to cleanse or remove the same.
Another object of my invention is to provide a clot-h fastener that can be used in connection with ironing boards of various sizes and shapes.
I attain the above objects by a structure that will be presently described in detail, and reference will now be had to the drawings, forming a part of this application, wherein.
Figure 1 is a bottom plan of a portion of an ironing board, and Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view of the same.
In the accompanying drawings, 1 designates an ironing board and 2 a piece of fabric constituting a cover for the board. Secured to the board adjacent to the longitudin al edges thereof by screws 3 or similar fastening means are a plurality of fasteners for securing the cover 2 upon the board 1. Each fastener comprises a plate 4 provided at the inner edge thereof with a depending hook Pivotally connected to an eyelet (3 at the opposite edge of the plate is a pin 8 adapted to engage in the edges of the cover 2.
"ith the pins 8 in an extended position as shown at the left hand side of Figs. 1 and 2, the fabric is placed in engagement with the pins and then the pins swung inardly to engage the hooks 5, holding the cover 2 in a stretched position upon the board.
It will be observed that the pins can be easily and quickly released when the cover is to be removed, thereby dispensing with the use of tacks or sewing as a fastening medium for the cover upon an ironing board.
I reserve the right to use the fasteners upon the under edges of tables, or for securing a cover upon any structure.
The fasteners are made of light and durable metal and are designed as a fixture for an ironing board.
lVhile in the drawings forming a part of this application there is illustrated the preferred embodiments of my invention, I would have it understood that the details of construction can be varied or changed as to the shape, proportion and manner of assemblage, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, is
An ironing board comprising a body portion, a plate secured to the lower face at one end of the said body portion, a series of spaced plates carried by the lower face of the body portion at each side thereof, an eye depending from each of the plates at the outer side thereof, a hook depending from each of the plates at the inner side thereof, and a pin pivo'tally connected to each of the eyes and adapted to engage in each of the hooks for connecting a cover to the board, the pin at the end of the board extending longitudinally with respect to the board, and the pins at the sides of the board extending transversely with respect to the board.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
