ENVELOP FOR rosr-camns, ac.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 2a, 1909.
Application filed August 18, 1906. Serial No. 331,171.
To all whom it may concern:
Be 'it known that I, GEORGE D. BARBER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Worcester, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Envelops for Post-Cards, &c., of which the following is a specification. j
My invention relates to 'an improved envelop or protector cover, made of transpar-v ent material, preferably parchmyn, sotermed, to be used for protecting post cards, preferably illustrated or picture post cards, in transportation through the mail.
The object of my invention is to provide an envelop or protector cover of the class referred to, therein forv stamp on the having an aperture or opening the exposure of the postage post card or other article contained within the envelop, to receive the canceling stamp for the postage stamp, and also preferably for the exposure of a sufiicient partof the inclosure, to receive the postmark to be stamped thereon.
My invention consists in certain novel features-of construction of my envelop or protector cover, and more particularl in making an aperture or a ertures thereln, for the pur ose stated, sai aperture or apertures pre erably having reinforced or strengthened|edges. Referring to the drawing v Figure l is a front view of an envelop'or protector cover embodying my improvements, and having a stamped post card therein. Fig. 2 is, on an enlar ed scaleya section, on line 2, 2, Fig. direction of'arrow a, same figure,,and, Fig. 3 shows a modified construction of the envelop or protector cover,-shown in Fig. 1.
In the accompanying drawing, 1; is y improved envelop or protector cover,-*p re erably made of transparent material, as parchmyn, so termed, and preferably opened at one end, with a flap l thereon. The envelop or protector cover 1 has an a erture or opening 2 therein, preferably ocated to receive the skilled in the art.
1 cl l, 100 ing in the strengthened e near one ed e where the postage stamp 3 is ordinarily a xed to the post card 4, or other article placed Within the envelop, of a size and shape to fullyexpose the postage stamp canceling stamp, as shown in the drawing. The aperture 2 has the edges thereof preferably reinforced or strengthened, preferably by a strip or thickness of material 5, extendin around the same, and attached to the enve op proper by adhesive material, or otherwise.
In Fig. 3 is shown a modified construction of the envelop shown in Fig. 1. In said Fig. 3, the aperture or opening 2. is made of 'sufiicien't size to receive the canceling stampfor the postage stamp, andlalso the post-' mark 6. Instead of having a single opening for the canceling stamp of the postage stamp, and for the post-mark, two or more openings may be made if preferred. The advantages of my improved envelop or protector cover for illustrated post cards, etc., will be readil appreciated by those liy means of said cover any injury or disfiguration of the card, or other article is prevented, and at the same time the card or otherarticle can have impressed thereon, on the address side, the post-mark, and also the canceling stamp of the postage stamp which is attached to the post card, and the post card can be sent with an ordinary post card postage stamp thereon.
It will be understood that the details of construction of my improvements may be varied if desired.
Having thus described my invention, what aim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is z- An improved article of manufacture, an
envelop or protector cover, of transparent material, for post cards,
etc.,.havingan aperture or openm v therein, with reinforced or ges.
