T0 all whom t may concern Be it known that l, GEORGE WILBUR 'SHIP- Lm', a citizen of the United States, residing at Albemarle, in the county of Stanley and State of North Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in En* velops, of which the following is a specification. p

This invention relates to envelops, the primary object of which is to provide an etlicient envelop which is manufacturable at a very low cost.

Another object is to prevent tampering with the contents of the envelop withouty detection, and furthermore to permit the name of thesendee to be visible through the envelop, eliminating the necessity of writing the name and address on the envelop.

Other objects as well as the nature, characteristic features and scope of my invention will be more readily understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claim forming a part of this specification. p

Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 is an envelop constructed in accordance with my invention and shown in a closed position, Fig. 2 is a plan view of the envelop blank, Fig. 3 is a front elevation of a modified form, Fig. 4c is a plan view ofthe blank envelop, a portion thereof being broken away, and Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 3.

ln the drawings wherein is illustrated the preferred embodiment of this invention, my improved envelop generally designated 5 in the present instance, comprises a pair of sections 6 and 7, the former of which is the main section and the latter the auxiliary section, said auxiliary section having the marginal sides thereof inclined. An opening 8 is formed in said auxiliary section 7 and has mounted thereover a transparent strip 9, in order that the name of the sendee which is written on the letter in the envelop may be visible therethrough, eliminating the necessity of writing the name of the addressee on the envelop. Flaps 10 extend laterally from the sides of the main section 6, said flaps being preferably inclined, as`

shown to advantage in Fig. 2, said main section 6 having extending from the upper marginal edge thereof an end flap 11, which has coated thereon an adhesive material 12 in order to facilitate the engaging of the same with the auxiliary section 7 and the end iiaps 10, as shown in Fig. 1.

In the use of the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, assumingthat the envelop is in a blank, as shown in Fig. 2, the laterally extending iiaps 10 are 4first folded upon the main section 6 and the auxiliary section 7, then folded upon the iaps 10 after which the end Hap 11 is folded upon the iiap 10 and the section 7 and secured thereto through the medium of the adhesive material 12, thereby preventing the displacement of the contents of the envelop, at the same time, providing an efiicient and inexpensive envelop which is further provided with the openings 8 for the purpose heretofore described.

and 2. However, in conjunction with this blank, as shown in Figs. 3, 4 and 5, I have associated a tongue 12 which extends from the free marginal edge of the endflap 11 and engages through an elongated slit 13, the latter being formed in the auxiliary section 7 and adapted for engagement in a pocket formed by extending the auxiliary section 7 and folding it over upon itself, as indicated at 14.

ln use this form which we will assume is in a blank, as shown in Fig. a, has the flaps 10 thereof, first folded upon the main section 6 after which the auxiliary section 7 is folded so as to engage the side flap 10', the end flap 11 then folded upon the auxiliary section 7 the tongue 12 engaging through the slit 13 into the pocket which is provided by extending the ends of the section 7, as indicated on the drawings at 14. By this formation, it is seen that the contents of the envelop cannot be extracted without detection and furthermore, provides a simple and eflicient envelop which is manufacturable at a very low cost.
