To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ANDREW C. DoRsETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Coiiinton, in the county of Stewart and State of Georgia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Envelops, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in envelops and the principal object of the invention is to provide means for preventing the envelop being opened by an unauthorized person without leaving signs that the same has been tampered with.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple and durable in construction, reliable and efficient in operation and one which can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a minimum cost.

The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.

In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure l is a view of the blank from which the envelop is made.

Fig. 2 is a view of the envelop with the upper flap in raised position.

Fig. 3 is a rear view of the closed envelop.

As shown in these views, the envelop is composed of the front l, the two end fiaps 2, the lower flap 3 and the upper iap t. The end flaps are each made with a straight upper edge and a lower edge cut away on an incline as at 5, the incline extending to a point midway the ends of the fiap and the rest of the cut away portion being parallel with the upper edge of the flap. The lower flap 3 is provided with a series of holes 6, three being shown in the drawings, and said holes are so located that when the end flaps are folded over the bottom flap said holes will come in the space formed by the cut away part of the end flaps. The holes are covered by a strip of tissue paper 7, pasted Specification of Letters Patent.

on the inner surface of the bottom flap, and a strip of tissue paper 8 is pasted on the outer surface of the end liap adjacent the fold thereon with a portion left free to cover the holes.

The bottom flap is irst folded and then the end flaps are folded over the bottom flap, said end flaps having adhesive 'thereon so that they will be secured to the bottom flap and to each other. After the letter or other contents of the envelop is placed therein, the top flap is folded over. This top flap is of such dimension that its free edge will come about midway across the holes. The edges of this top flap are provided with adhesive, as usual, so that it will .be secured to/the other fiaps and parts of the tissue paper in the holes. The iap formed by the strip of tissue paper S is then folded down so that it will cover the free edge of the upper flap as wel] as the tissue paper appearing through the lower half of the holes. This strip 8 is provided with adhesive and is transparent so that the tissue paper appearing through the holes may be seen through it. I prefer to form the strip of paper 7 of a different color from the strip.

It will thus be seen that anyone attempting to open the envelop will damage the strips 8 and 7, so that it eau be clearly seen that the envelop has been tampered with.

It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.

I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangel'nent of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.

That I claim is An envelop of the class described, having a bottom flap provided with a series of holes, a strip of tissue paper pasted across said holes, a top flap having a part engaging with said strip through the holes and a strip of transparent material secured to the bottom Hap, and adapted to be secured to the upper flap when the same is folded over.
