DENNIS C. ZIVLEY, OF EL PASO, TEXAS.
STAMP AND COIN ENVELOIP.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DENNIS O. ZIvLnY, a
citizen of the United States, residing at El Paso, in the county of El Paso and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Stamp and Coin Envelops, of which the following is a specification.
The invention provides a novel form of envelop having a separate pocket for receiving coin, postage stamps or sundry articles to be transmitted through the mail in such a manner as to be kept separate from the contents of the envelop and also to insure safe delivery, since-the pocket is so situated as to be protected and not easily accessible for removal of the contents without mutilating the envelop to such an extent as. to.
render detection easy and certain.
. The invention provides an envelop which may be constructed of a single sheet or blank having a back formed of a number of layers between which the pocket is located to receive the postage stamp, coin or other small article to be mailed, the pocket in addition to its own flap being further protected by the flap which closes the envelop and sealsthe same.
The invention consists of the novel features, details of construction and combination of parts,'which hereinafter will be more particularly set forth, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the appended claim. v
Referring to the drawings, forming a part of the specification, Figure 1 is a detail view of the blank from which the envelop is formed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a detail View, showing the blank partly folded. Fig. 3 is a detail view, showing a further step in the folding of the blank. Fig. 4 is a detail View, showing the envelop complete with the sealing flap open.
Fig. 5 is a transverse section of the envelop when sealed. 7
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the folllowing description, and indicated in all the views of the drawings, by the-same reference characters.
The envelop is formed from a blank having the outline substantially as shown in Fig. 1 and comprising 'a front 1, wings 2 and 3 at the ends of the front,a. sealing flap 4 at the top of the front 1, a flap 5 at the bottom of the front 1 and a flap 6 for clos- Specification of Letters'l'aten t. Application filed October 22, 1912. Serial No. 727,180.

ing the pocket. The wings 2 and 3 when folded upon the front 1 constitute the back ofthe envelop and the pocket 7 is located between them. The wings 2 and 3 are substantially of a size corresponding with the front 1. A slit 8 is formed in an end portion of the wing 3 a short distance from the fold between such wing andthe front 1. A tongue 9 at the outer end of the wing 2 is adapted to pass through the slit 8 and its extremity is gummed and secured to the inner side of the wing 3. The end portions of the wing 2 at the sides ofthe tongue 9 are secured to the outer side of the wing 3-. The bottom flap 5is folded upon the wings 2 and 3 and is secured to theouter side thereof. The end of the wing 3 is secured to the inner side of the wing 2 near the fold between the said wing 2 and front 1. The pocket 7 may be of any form and consists of a space formed between the two wings 2 and 3, portions of such wings being secured to form. the pocket 7. The flap 6 is formed upon the upper edge of the wing 3 opposite the pocket 7 and its edge portion is supplied with gum which when moistened will secure the flap 6 to the outer side of the wing 2 or article to be transmitted through'the mail has been placed therein. The sealing flap 4 has its edge portion gummed in the usual manner to admit ofsecuring the same to the back of the envelop after the latter has received the letter sheet or other matter to be mailed. It is noted that the sealing flap 4 extends over the pocket and the pocket closing flap 6, thereby giving further security to the contents of the pocket and preventing ready access thereto. The location of the pocket 7 is such as to prevent injury to the contents thereof as well as to protect the pocket from being rifled.
. The envelop as placed upon the market and secured, the flaps 4 and 6 being loose.
The article to be mailed, such as a postage stamp or coin, is placed in the pocket 7 after which the flap 6 is folded thereover and v made secure. The envelop may now be used in the usual way to receive the letter sheet or other article to be mailed and after the same has been placed in the envelop the flap 4 is folded over the opening and secured to usual way without breaking the seal of the pocket 7.and to obtain the contents of such pocket it is necessary to open the same by a subsequent operation.
It will be readily understood that the construction of the envelop is such as to enable sundry small articles or coin to be transmitted through the mails with comparative security, since access to the pocket may not be readily had and the chances for detection should the envelop be tampered with are many.
From the" foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the advantages of the construction and of the method of operation will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains, and while I have described the principle of operation of the invention, together with the device which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative, and
that such changes may be made when desired as are within the scope of the claim appended hereto. I
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new, is
An envelop consisting of a blank embodying a front,- end wings substantially coextensive with the front and of a like width, abottom flap, and a sealing flap, the under lying end wing having a transverse slit near its inner end and a second flap at its top edge and the overlyin end wing having a tongue at its outer en passed through the slit of the underlying wlng andgummed to the inner sidethereof and having the parts at the sides of the tongue gummed to the outer side of said underlying wing, the two wings having 'portions secured to form a pocket which is adapted to be sealed by the before mentioned second flap and said pocket having its openin about in line with the fold between the ront and top flap to be closed by the latter.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
D. C. ZIVLEY.
