Description
Y IAQ UNITED STATE-s erols knnrr'nnn, 'on
EAST NEW YORK,
IMPRQVEMEN'i-m SPRING BED-sortons.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 93,096, dated July 27, 1869.
To all lwhom/it may concern:
State of New York, have invented a new and Improved SpringBed-Bottom; and l do hereby declare the following to bea full, clear, vand exact descriptionthereof, which will enable those lskilhtl in the'art to make and use the same, reference being'hadl to the accompanying draw-ings, forming partl 'of this specification, in which drawings- Figure l represents a planl or top yview of' this invention. Fig. 2 is a. longitudinal vergt' cal section of the same, the line a: x, Fig. l,in` v dicatng' the piane'of section.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parte."
This invention relates to a spring bed-bottom constructed of a series of'spiral springs which are interwoven, and the ends of which are secured to traverses connected totensiorr. screws which pass through the head and foot pieces of vthe frame containing said bottonnig such a manner that a uniform tension is pr;d duced throughout the entire spring-botmi'n and the permanent and unequal sagging dcpn ot' the bed-bottom, when the saine is expsed to a long-continuous pressure in one spot, is effectually prevented. With the interwoen spiral springs I have also combined a series of .conical coiled springs for-the purpose Offincreasing the` supporting porter of the bed-iJot tom. y In the drawings, the letter A designates a -rnnemade` of wood or anyI other material,
of convenient size to be introduced into an ordinary bedstead; or it may be provided with x legs and be used in place of the bedstead. Between the yend pieces of said frame extends a. series of spiral springs, B, which are inter- Vwoven, as clearly shownin Fig. 1 of the draw,-
ings, their ends bein g hun gon rods c, whichare situated close to the end pieces of the fra-nie and supported by hooksor eyebolts b, extendiu g through the end pieces and rovided with nuts c', so that by turning these nuts the tension of the whole series of springs can be increasedl ordecreased without difficult;7 and in avery short time. The end pieces of the frame-A are couneeted'by rods d, which extend -throu gh the lirstfand'la'st springs and serve to increase the supporting power of the" bed-bottom. The springs B are supported by a series ot conical springs, C, which are fastenedto the crossrails' e of the frame A, as shown. The number ot' these springs may be ncreased'to an5r desired extent, according to the desired supportin g power of the bed-bottom.
Having'thus described my invention, what l claim" as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is#- The. conical springsl,4 in combination with the interwoven spiral springs B, cross-rods a, hook or eyebolts b, and 'frame A, subst-autiall y as set forth. u l l ALUIS KNEPPLER..
