SIMON FREUND, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BED-SPRING SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 666,505, dated January 22, 1901. Application filed September 7, 1900. Serial No. 29,27'7. (No model.) v
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, SIMON FREUND, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bed-Spring Supports, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to supports for bedsprings; and one object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which forms a convenient support for an ordinary bedspring and on which in practice the spring is secured, a further object being to provide a support for a mattress or bed-spring composed of separate parts yieldingly connected and pivotally connected with a frame, whereby the spring itself on which the mattress is placed is yieldingly supported; and with these and other objects in View the invention consists in a bed-spring or mattress-spring support constructed as hereinafter described and claimed and to which in practice the spring is secured.
The invention is fully disclosed in the fo1lowing specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the Views, and in Which- Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved bed-spring or mattress-spring support, and Fig. 2 apartial section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
In the drawings forming part of this specification I have shown at 5 a frame, which may be of any preferred construction, and in the practice of my invention, as shown in Fig. 1, I provide eight spring-metal strips or bars, four of which are connected with each end of the frame 5, as shown at 6, '7, 8, and 9. The connection of these strips or bars at 10 may be made in any desired manner, and the two side strips or bars 6 at one side and the corresponding strips or bars 9 at the opposite side are pivotally connected at their inner ends, as shown at 11, and the strips or bars7 and 8 at each end are crossed, as at 12, and the ends thereof are pivotally connected at 13, and the pivotally-connected ends of the strips or bars 7 are connected with the pivotally-connected ends of the strips or bars 9 adjacent thereto at each side of the frame by a spring 14. The connection of the springs 14 with the pivotally-connected ends of the strips or bars 7 and 9 is preferably made as shown in Fig. 3, in which one end of the spring 14 is passed through the ends of the strips or bars 7, as shown at 15, and forms the pivotal connection of said strips or bars, while the corresponding strips or bars 9 are connected by a pin or rivet 16, on the lower end of which is placed a clip with which the corresponding end of the spring 14 is connected, as shown at 18.
The springs 14' are spiral springs, and the strips or bars 6 and 7, 8 and 9, and 19 and 20 are also composed of spring metal and may be composed wholly or partly of spiral springs, if desired, and other changes in and modifications of the construction herein described may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
In practice the mattress is secured to the frame 5 in the usual or any preferred manner and rests on said frame and the spring and spring-connected members therein, but said mattress or bed-spring forms no part of this invention, and is therefore not shown and described.
By means of this construction I provide a yielding support for the mattress or bedspring the separate parts of which are pivotally connected and also pivotally connected with a frame, whereby a yielding and movable spring-snpport is provided for the mattress or bed-spring which adds largely to the comfort of the occupant of the bed and renders the bed-springs and other parts more durable.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A support for a mattress or bed-spring, comprising a frame, spring-strips secured to the ends thereof at each side, and consisting of two separate members pivotally connected at their inner ends, additional spring-strips secured to each end of the frame, and crossed approximately centrally, the inner ends of posite crossed members, and spiral springs my inventien I have signed my name, in presconnecting the pivotally-conneeted en cls of ence of the subscribing witnesses, this 5th day the crossed strips with the pivotally-conof September, 1900.
nected ends of the separate members of the SIMON FREUND. 5 side strips, substantially as shown and de- WVitnesses:
scribed. F. A. STEWART,
In testimony that I claini the foregoing as O. O. OLSEN.
