i Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed January 1'7, 1910.
Patented Sept. 13, 1910.
Serial No. 538,465.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnone Lax, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at Vienna, Austria-Hungary, have ilwented certain new and useful Improvements in Elastic Supports for Upholstered Furniture; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying draw ings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention has for its object to provide an elastic spring device for upholstered furniture such as chairs, sofas, etc., mattresses, elastic bed frames and the like formed by girths with interposed draw springs or tension springs.
The invention in its essence consists in that the said tension springs are formed of flat steel springs that are spirally wound up at their extremities.
A further distinctive feature of the invention consists in that for the purpose of producing high-vaulted upholstery work the exterior parts of the girths are attached in a. suitable manner to the yielding borders of the frame.
In the drawing accompaying this specification Figure 1 is a perspective view of an example of execution of the object of the invention whereas Fig. 2 is a detail thereof.
The elastic spring device consists of the girths a and the steel springs 7). According to the present invention the springs Z) are flat springs and have their extremities rolled in so as to form spirals The rolledin extremities of the springs are connected by means of loops 0, bows, buckles and the like to the girths a which are arranged in various ways according to the special requirements in each particular case. In cases of flat upholstery work the girths are attached in a suitable manner to I'lg'id parts of the frame. If however high vaulted upholstery work is being produced, as for in stance is shown in Fig. 1, the tension girths are connected to the yielding or elastic borders (l of the frame.
The connection between the tension springs 12 and the girths a can be effected as shown in Fig. 2 by means of buckles e or some similar known means to regulate in a known manner the tension of the springs and of the girths and consequently of the entire elastic spring device in objects already made.
Claims:
1. An elastic support for upholstered furniture comprising steel springs having yielding, comparatively large spiral end portions, and girth sections secured to the extremities of said ends adapted to be connected with the furniture frame.
2. In an elastic support for upholstered furniture the combination with a frame, of a yielding border mounted thereon; girth sections secured to said border, and flat steel springs having comparatively large spiral ends connecting the sections.
3. In an elastic support for upholstered furniture the combination with a frame, of a yielding support stretched thereon, adjustable girth sections connected to the support. and flat steel springs having spiral end portions connected at their extremities to oppositely positioned girth sections.
at. In an elastic support for upholstered furniture the combination with a frame, of a yielding support stretched on and forming a border for the frame, adjustable girth sections secured to the support on opposite sides of the frame, and [lat steel springs having spiral end portions connected at their extremities to oppositely positioned girth sections.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
