Be it known that l, l l nynmn M. luminan- LIN, Jr, a citizen of the United Eltates, residing at Detroit, in the county of lt ayne and State 0t lllichigan, have invented. certain new and useful improvements in Men'ioramlum Calendar Pads and Stands, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

My ii'lvcntion relates to improvements in combination memorandum calendars and stands. The extensive Immufacturing and marketing of devices of this class has been precluded, owing particularly to the prospective entailmcnt of great expense. As a rule such articles are composed of a plurality of entirely separate and distinct parts that involve considerable time, labor, and money in their formation and subsequent assemblage and unification.

By this invention I propose to eliminate the foregoing, and other attendant disadvantages of the well recognized and almost indispensable ollice appurtonance, and thus provide a commodity that will supply a vast field of usefulness.

To the accmnplishment of the recited ob jects and others coordinate therewith, the preferred embodiment of my invention resides in that construction. and arrangement of parts hereinafter d ascribed, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and embraced within the scope of the appended claims.

In said drawings: Figure l is a plan view of the blank from which the stand is formed. Fig. 2 is a view, in perspective, of the complete memorandum calendar and stand, and Fig. 3 is a simi'ir view of the stand.

The illustrations presented in the drauings are intended to be only diagrammatical and of suggestive scope suflicicnt to afford full explication of the principle of my invention.

Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.

In carrying out this invention, I employ a substantially rectangular shaped blank of metal, preferably, nickel-plated or galvanized sheet-metal, and subject the same to the action of suitable die, so that the opposing terminals thereof will be bifurcated, and the medial portion longitudinally slit, to present, respectively, legs 11 and 2-2, a tongue 3, and a base l, as clearly shown. in Fig. l of the drawings. Subsequently, the bifurcated por- LlOllS are bent at the points (r -o. unequidistant from the terminals, and turned downwardly at r' flit angles to the base 4., when the ends of tie logs are bent ii'rwardly, as at in this connection, and for reasons which will hereinafter appear obvious, it will be noted that l attain a slight inclination of the stand. Following this operation, the tongue is flexed at b, upwardly in the same vertical plane with respect to the disposition of said legs, and supplemented with a second and third flexing at c and at, until the same is caused to assume the form illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawings. In conjunction with this construction of stand, I have devised a memorandum calendar pad 6, with a slot 7 ex tending thcrethrough, adjacent the rear end thereof, and conforming to the contour of the tongue 3, thus allowing the pad to be slipped over the latter, and retained upon the base i, in the manner exhibited in Fig. 2.

i-is contemplated, my invention embodies novel features which will promote its elliciency and economical adoption. Primarily, the stand is constituted by a base, legs, and a combined guiding and supporting tongue, constructed of a single piece of metal. The base is projected slightly beyond the rear end of the pad, which, taken together with its inclination, as imparted by the variance in the vertical extent of the legs, is an important factor as a means for preventing an over-balancing of the stand, when the entire 365 leaves of the pad have been shifted to the tongue. Owing to the terminally bent portions of the legs, the device may be placed upon highly-polished furniture, and other like surfaces, with impunity. The tongue serves not only to hold the pad upon the base, but guides and supports the leaves of said pad, which in contradistinction to the wires in common use on similar stands, presents marked advantages. ln the latter from the base to the support, unless great care is exercised, there is a tendency of the leaves to tilt and engage the wires, and if the leaves are not properly adjusted at this stage,

otherwise obliterated. However, with my invention the leaves may be grasped at any point which convenience may dictate, and transferred to the support without the slightl est difliculty.

As an entirety, I claim that this memol randum calendar and pad is the only pracinstance, when it is desired to shift the leaves there is danger of the same becoming torn or tical combination that can be manufactured at a price sufliciently low to permit oi its use as an. advertising medium.

It should be understood that in its broader aspects my invention comprehends the employment not only of the various means de scribed, but of equivalent means for performing the recited functions. Vl liile the arrangement shown is thought, at the present time, to be preferable, I desire to reserve he right to ellect such inoditieations and variations thereoi as may come Fairly within the scope ol the appended claims.

Having thus described the invention, What I claim as nev r is:

1. The combination with a memorandum calendar nad having a transversely arranged slot, of a stand constructed oi a single piece of sheet metal, and comprising a base for said pad, supports for said base, and a medial tongue extending through said slot for detaohably securing the pad to the base, and guiding, and supporting the leaves of the pad at an inclination when they are shifted from the base.

2. As a new article of manufacture, a memorandum calendar pad stand constructed of a single piece of sheet metal, comprising a base for the pad, supports for said base, and a medial leaf tongue for detachably securing the pad to the base, and guiding, and sun 'iorting the leaves of the pad at an inclination when they are shifted fr 111 the base.
