JOSEPH SYKES BROMHEAD, OF PECKHAM, ENGLAND.
Letters Patent No. 92,007, dated June 29, 1869; patented in England, July 23, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT IN REGULATORS FOR GAS-BURNERS;
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making m of the lamp.
To all to whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOSEPH SYKns BROMHEAD, of
Peckham, in the county of Surrey, England, have iu vented Improvements in Dry Gas-Regulators; and
I do hereby declare that the following is a fulland' exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construct-ion and operation.
My invention relates to an improvement in those devices for regulating the supply of gas to gas-burners,
wherein a series of perfinated disks are employed; and
It consists in the arrangement of the perforated disk's upon a screw-threaded connecting-rod, or its equivalent, the whole being enclosed in a brass tube, through which the gas passes to the burners, the regulation being effected by arranging the disks more or less approximating to each other, according to the quantity of gas required to pass through the tube to the burners.
It will be observed that I do not claim as new the use of perforated disks to control and regulate the any part of the main leading from the gas-meter to the'several burners.
Its construction is as follows:
P denotes a tube of metal, threaded at either end, for connection to the main gas-pipe at one end,'and to receive a nib, or burner at the other, as illustrated in the drawing.
' Within the tube P, I arrange a series of perforated disks of metal, fitting easily within the said tube.
These disks are each screwed upon a threaded rod, Q, and are intended to be adjusted, either nearer to or further from each other, according to the pressure of the gas; for example, the nearer the disks are to each other, the slower will be the passage of the gas through them, and the farther the disks are apart'the quicker will be the passage of the gas through them.
This form of gas-regulator may be applied to any existing gas-main, instead of being used simply for a single burner, as just stated.
Having thus fully described my invention,
What I claim therein as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of a series of perforated disks of metal with a screw-threaded rod, to permit of their ready adjustment, at suitable distances apart, according to the pressure of the gas, substantially as herein set forth.
