To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN FREDERICK SIM- MANCE, a citizen of England, residing at'No. 81 Page street, Westminster, London, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas-Regulators, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to regulators for controlling the supply of gas to burners, rendering it regular notwithstanding variations of pressure, as I shall describe, referring to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a vertical section of a gas-regulator according to my invention. Fig. 2 shows a modification. These figures are drawn to a scale very much enlarged in order the better to show details.
As shown in Fig. 1, the governor comprises a cup A,-with gas-inlet B, anda cover 0, with gas-outlet D. The cover is made with a central nipple E projecting downward and a lip F all around projecting to the same level as E. Within the cup, free to move up or down,- is a disk G, having through it one or several .holes, but none of them in line with the outlet D. When the pressure of the gas supplied varies, the disk G is more or less raised toward the outlet, more or. less throttling the passage for the gas to the burner, the pressure of which is thus maintained constant, or nearly so, notwithstanding variations of the service-pressure.
As shown in Fig. 2, the disk G is made without holes through it, and a by-pass H is provided to the space above the disk, this being regulated by a screw-plug K.
Having thus described the nature of this invention and the best means I know of carrying the same into practical effect, I claim- 1. In a gas-regulator, the combination with the cup A, of the cover 0 fitted to said cup and having a downwardly-projecting central nipple E and similarly-projecting circumferentiallip F surrounding said nipple and Lying in the same plane therewith, a disk freely supported by the cup and lying directly below the said nipple and circumferential lip and a passage or passages leading from the cup below the disk to the cover above thedisk, substantially as described.
2. In a gas-regulator, the combination with the cup A, of the cover 0, fitted to said cup and having a downwardly-projecting central nipple E, and similarly-projecting circumferential lip F surrounding said nipple and lying in the same plane, therewith, a disk freely supported by the cup and lying directly below the said nipple and circumferential lip, a'normally open by-pass formed in the body of the cup below the disk, leading upward above the disk and discharging outside of the circumferential lip, and a plug K for controlling said by-pass, substantially as described.
