To all whom it may concern.' g Y Beit known that I, EDWARD E. PALMER, a citizen of the United States,residing at Wooster, in the county of Wayne and State of Ohio, have inventedcertain new and useful Improvements in Shade and Curtain Fixtures, of which the following is a specification. Y

My invention relates to improvements in shade and curtain fixtures designed for luse in connection `with windows and similar places where it is desired to attach and suspend window -shades andV curtains or draperies. .A Y 1- My invention-relates more particularly to that class of shade and curtain fixtures in which the curtain-pole bracket vis secured to the shade roll bracket; and in my invention` a shade-roll bracket is provided with a supporting-plate adjustably-secured and mounted in front of the face of the window-frame by means of a second or main attachingand supporting-plate removably-secured beneath the lower edge of the upper cross-member of the window-frame by `means of a single screw, thus avoiding defacement of the window frame incident to attachingtheordinary fixture directly to the faceI of the windowframe.` t Y c 1 i The primary object ofthe invention is to produce a generally improvedldevice ofthis class of simple construction adapted-to support the shade-roll in eitherone of theV two well known conventional styles ofmounting and a further object of the invention is to providea generally-improved attaching-device adjustably-supporting both the shade-A roll and curtain-pole bracket, and which may be easily attached to or removed from anyv ordinary window-frame. A single screwis required for each attaching device and-thisV screw also performsthe additional function of clamping shade-roll bracket in any position to which it may be moved horizontally toV conform to shade-rolls and curtain-poles of varying lengths. y l

With these and other ends in view, the invention consists in the novel construction,

arrangement and combination of parts, here-V inafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out` in the appendedclaims.

The improved iixture com rises a main attaching and supporting.- plate removablysecured beneath the lower edge of the upper cross-member of the window-frame, a shaderoll supporting-bracket provided with a sup- I portingplate adjustably-secured to said main attaching and supporting-plate and carried in front of the face of the window frame, and a curtain-pole bracket detachably-mounted upon the bracket-head of said shade-roll supporting-plate.

The maingattaching and supporting-plate 1, is provided at one side with an extension 2, preferably, bent at right angles to the main bodyV portion land terminatingin a downwardly-extending hooked iiange 3. One end ofthe main body portion is provided with an auxiliary bracket-head 4, preferably, extending at right angles thereto and depending therefrom as shown most `clearly in Fig. 1, of the drawings. The main body portion of plate 1, is adapted to be removably-mounted beneath and attached to the lower edge of the upper cross-member of the windowframe by means ofa screw 5, the shank of which passes througha recess-slot or guideway 6, extending from the rear edge of the plate 1.

The sup orting-plate 7, of the shade-roll bracket is s idably and detachably-connected to the main attaching and supporting-plate and adjustablysecured and mounted in front of the face of the window-frame by means of a horizontally-extending hookedflange 8, taking into and slidably-engaging with the hooked-iiange 3, the bent over edge-l 8, of said flange impinging against the attaching and supporting-plate 1. lt will be observed that the hooked-flanges 3 and 8, provide recesses forming guide-ways 3a and 8b, respectively, for the reception of the edge of the opposite engaging hooked-Harige. lt will be observed that the supporting-plate l7, rests against the face of a window-frame and, when it is desired to shift or adjust the supporting-plate, the screw 5, may be loosened and the plate 1, may be shifted horizontally to the position desired, after which it may be securely held in position by moving the saine iirinly into frictional engagement with the Vface of the window-frame by pressing against the face-extension 2 and then securing the parts in their' adjusted position by tightening the screw 5. One end of the supporting-plate 7, terminates in a brackethead` 9, preferably, projecting at right angles thereto and provided with the usual opening or recess 10, for the reception of the ends of the shade-rolls.

The curtain-pole bracket comprises an upwardly-extending shank portion 11, and an outwardly-extending hook or bracket portion 12, having a recess 13, for the reception. of an ordinary wooden curtain-pole.

The upper end of the hook portion 12, terminates in an upwardly-extending shankportion 14, for taking through transverse openings of an ordinary brass tubular telescoping curtain-rod or pole, when it is desired to useY a curtain-pole of this style. rlhe base of the curtain-pole bracket terminates, in the present instance, in a pair of rearwardly-extending guide-Shanks 15, having their upper and lower edges bent over forming hooked guide-'flanges 1G, providing y guideways 16a, for the reception of and slidably-mounted on the upper and lower edges of the bracket head 9. The intermediate recessopening 17, is adapted to receive and take over the adjacent pins of the ends of the e shade-roll mounted in the openings or recesses 10, when the curtain-pole bracketA is mounted on the bracket head 9, as indicated in Fig. 1, of the drawings. It will also be observed that when the curtain-pole bracket is mounted upon the bracket head 9, provided with the usual recess-opening the upper guide-shank 15, will irevent the eleva` tion or accident-al removL of the pin of the shade-roll from the recess-opening, as clearly appears in Fig. l, of the drawings.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the operation and advantages of my invention will be readily understood.

I have entered into a somewhat detailed description of the present and preferred einbodinient of my invention in order to impart a delinite understanding of the saine. I do not desire, however, to be understood as restricting myself to the exact construction shown and described, as various changes and modifications may be inadc in the forni, size, and minor details of construction without departing from the principles or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.

What l claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,-

1. In a shade and curtain iixture, the conibination with the upper cross-member of a windowfraine, and ainain attaching and supporting-plate removably and :nljustably-secured beneath the lower edge oil said crossniember and provided with a face extension terminating in a downwardly extending hooked-'liange in front of the face of said cross-member; of asupporting-plate carrying a bracket head at one end and resting against the face of said cross-member and termin ating at its lower edge in a l1ool;ed-flango slidablyengaging said first named hooked lange and having its bent over edge impinging against said attaching and supporting-plate.

2. in a shade and curtain fixture, a inaiu attaching and supporting-plate comprising a horizontally-extending main plate carrying at its front edge an upwardly-projecting face-extension terminating in a downwardlyextending hooked flange.

3. In a shade and curtain fixture, an attaching and supporting-plate provided with a downwardly-extending hooked-Harige, and a supporting-plate carrying at one end a bracket head and provided at its lower edge with a hooked-flange taking into and engaging with said hooked-'ilange and having the lower or bent over portion of said hooked- ;liange abutting against said attaching and supporting-plate.

4. ln a shade and curtain iixture, a inain attaching and supporting-plate comprising a main plate or body portion provided with a recess or guide-slot extending from its rear edge, and carrying at its front edge an upwardly-projecting face-extension terminating in a downwardly extending hookedflange and provided at one end with a dcpending bracket-head.

5. A shade and curtain iixture, comprising an attaching and supporting-plate having one edge bent into a hooked-ilange and one end bent into a bracket-Mead, a supportingplate provided with a hooked-flange taking into and slidably niounted in said first named hooked-flange and provided at one end with a bracket-head, and a curtain pole bracket provided at its base with guideilanges taking over the upper and lower edges of said last mentioned lnacket-head.

6. A shade and curtain fixture, comprising an attaching and supporting-plate provided at its side with an angled extension terminating in a hooked-flange and at its ond with a bracket-head, a supporting-plate at the rear of said angled extension and provided at its end with a bracket-head and at its-lower edge with a hooked-flange and having its bent over edge impinging against said attaching and supporting-plate, and a curtainpole bracket provided with a base having its upper and lower edges bent over formingv guide-ways slidably-mounted `on the upper and lower edges of said lastV mentioned bracket-head.` Y

7. A shade and curtain fixture, comprising an attaching and supporting-plate provided at its rear with a guide-slot and at its front with a face-extension extendingat right angies thereto and terminatingfin a hookediiange, a supporting-plate carrying a bracket-v head and provided with a hooked-flange taking into said hooked-Bange and resting on said attaching and supporting-plate, anda curtain pole bracket provided with Va base Vhaving guide-flanges taking over the. vupper supporting plate carrying a bracket head and provided at its lower edge with a hooked- 'ilange taking into and engaging with said downwardly-extending hooked lange.
