UNITED STATES Patented March 15, 1904.
PATENT OFFICE.
WINDOW C URTAIN AND SHADE HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent-No. 754,531, dated March 15, 1904.
Application filed January 29, 1903. Serial No. 141,081. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARvE T. ANDREW, a citizen of the United States, residing at Memphis, county of'Scotland, and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Window Curtain and Shade Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in house fixtures wherein I employ one set of brackets to hold both window curtain and shade.
The object of my invention is to make a combined curtain and shade holder that is easily attached to and detached from the window-casing and also one that is easily taken down and put up with curtain and shades on, and thereby avoid taking the different pieces apart when cleaning house or moving.
Another object is to make a combined curtain and shade holder that can be easily at-' tached and detached repeatedly without marring the casing of the windows, as is the case when the ordinary curtain and shade fasteners are used.
By examining the drawings and specification it will be seen that I attain these objects.
Figure 1 is an elevation of my invention, showing it in position on the window-casing, also showing the shade in place. Fig. 2 is a sideview of clamp 1, showing the jaws 9 and 10 for holding my invention on'casing 7 Fig. 3 is a side View of brackets-5, showing mode of adjustment and how the curtain-pole 4 and shade 6 are held in place.
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout.
In the drawings, 1 is the clamp by which my invention is secured to the window-casing 6.
2 represents rods on which brackets 5 are adjusted to windows of various widths.
3 represents thumb screws which hold brackets 5 and clamp 1 to their places.
4 is the orginary curtain-pole.
6 is the or inary window-shade.
7 is the top board of the window-casing.
8 is a slot in the lower end of each bracket 15 to admit the ends of the window-shade.
The jaw 9 slides on the stem of clamp 1 and adjusts to any width of window-casing by thumb-screw 3.
By adjusting and clamping brackets 5 on rods 2 by thumb-screws my invention will fit windows of various widths.
The lower end of clamp 1 is formed into a jaw 10. The upper end is bent outward to form a circular hook 11, on which may be hung a flower-pot or other ornament.
In operation the clamp 1 is adjusted to fit the window-casing and the rods 2 centrally and is then secured by thumb-screw-3. Then the brackets are adjusted to place and clamped to place by thumb-screws 3. Then the curtain-pole 4 and shade 6 are put-in place.
Having thus fully described and shown my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a curtain and shade holder, a bracket having a jaw, at its lower end, a jaw slidable on the bracket, the said bracket having apertures, rods adjustable in the apertures, brackets slidable on the opposite ends of the rods, the said brackets being approximately C- shaped with the upper portion extending beyond the lower portion, a pole carried by the upper portion, the said lower portions having slots and a shade-roller mounted therein. v
2. In a curtain and shade holder, a bracket having a jaw at its lower end, a jaw slidable on the bracket, the said bracket having apertures, rods adjustable in the apertures, brackets slidable on the opposite ends of the rods, the said brackets being approximately C- shaped, a pole carried by the upper portion, the said lower portions having slots and shade-roller mounted therein.
HARVE T. ANDREW.
