EPHRAIM OHABOT, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
ADJUSTABLE SHA DE-R OLLE R HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o.c723,583, dated March 24, 1903.
Application filed December 13, 1902. Serial No. 135,159. N0 model-) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EPHRAIM OHABoT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Shade-Roller Holders, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of this invention is to provide improved shade-roller holders which may be connected with window-frames and which may be adjusted to suit shade-rollers of any desired length, afurther object being to provide shade-roller holders of the class specified which may-also be used as supports for a curtain-pole; and with these and other objects in view the invention consists in devicesof the class specified constructed'as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form apart, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which-- Figure 1 is a front view of the upper part of a window-frame provided with my im proved shade-roller holders and showing a shade roller and a curtain pole supported thereby; Fig. 2, a perspective view ofa part of one side of the window-frame and showing one end of the shaderoller and one end of the curtain-pole and one of the holders; Fig. 3, a side view of adetail of one of the holders and showing one of the movable jaws torming part thereof; and Fig. 4, a perspective view of one of the said movable aws.
In the drawings forming part of this specification I have shown a part of an ordinary window-frame comprising side members a and top member a and I have also shown an ordinary shade-roller b and curtain-pole c, and in the practice of my invention I provide holders for the roller and for the pole, when desired, which comprise two pieces of channel-iron d,adapted to be secured to the opposite sides of the window in any desired manner, this connection being made in the construction shown by means of screws d The pieces (I of channel-iron constitute brackets having inwardly-directed flanges (i which form the sides of a trough d, and the upper side of the trough d is provided with an upwardly-directed flange d and the bottom side of said trough with a downwardlydirected flange d", having backwardlydirected ratchet-teeth d The brackets d are secured to the sides of the window-frame in a horizontal position and in the same direct line, and mounted on each is a movable clamp or jaw e, stamped from sheet metal or cast, as may be desired, and each of these clamps or jaws is provided at the base with angular projections 6 having transverse shoulders e and by means of which an opening 6 is formed between said projections e which is partially closed by the,
inwardly-directed ends of the parts 6 In practice the clamps or jaws e are slid onto the brackets 01 by turning them into the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3, and the in wardly-directed ends of the shoulders e engage the flanges d and d of said brackets, and by'turning the said clamps or jaws at right angles to the said brackets, as shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3, the inwardly-directed end or portion of the bottom shoulder c will engage with the teeth 61 and the said clamps or jaws 6 will be held by this means in any position in which they maybe placed. When the clamps or jaws e have been adjusted to their proper position, the shade-roller b is dropped into position in the usual manner, and in practice it is necessary to adjust one of said clamps or jaws and then connect one end'of the roller therewith and afterward adjust the other clamp or jaw and drop the otherend of the roller thereinto. The clamps or'jaws e are also preferably provided with an upwardlyand forwardly directed arm f, having an upwardly-directed finger f and the curtain-pole c isprovided with holes 0 through which the fingersf pass, and by this means the pole c is supported in proper position with reference to theshade-roller b.
In Fig. 4 I have shown a modified form of one of the clamps or jaws in which the armf is not employed, and this form of clamp or jaw may be employed where it is not desired to support the curtain-pole.
In the construction shown the brackets (Z are secured to the front faces of the sides of the window frame; but, if desired, these brackets may be secured to the bottom face of the top portion of the window-frame adjacent to the sides thereof, and the operation will be the same as hereinbefore described.
Having fully described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- l. A shad e-roller holder comprising troughshaped brackets adapted to be secured to the sides of a window-frame, the sides of said brackets being provided at the front thereof with laterally-directed flanges one of which is provided with backwardly-directed teeth, and clamps or jaws mounted on said brackets and provided with angular members having transverse jaws andadapted to slide on said brackets when turned at an angle thereto and to be locked thereto when turned at right angles thereto said clamps or jaws be ing adapted to support a shade-roller, substantially as shown and described.
2. Ashade-rollerholder comprisingtroughshaped brackets adapted to be secured to the sides of a window-frame, the sides thereof being provided at the front thereof with laterally-directed flanges one of which is provided with backwardly-directed ratchet-teeth, and
clamps or jaws mounted on said brackets and provided with angular membershaving transverse jaws and adapted to slide thereon when turned at an angle thereto and to be locked thereto when turned at right angles thereto,-
said clamps or jaws being adapted to support a shade-roller, and being provided with upwardly and forwardly directed arms adapted to support a curtain-pole, substantially as shown and described.
3. In a shade-rollerholder, a bracket which is trough-shaped in cross-section, the sides thereof being provided at the front thereof with laterally-directed teeth, and a clamp having an angular member provided with transverse jaws and adapted to slide on said bracket when held at an inclination thereto, and to be locked thereto when held at right angles thereto, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 8th day of December, 1902.
EPHRAIM CI-IABOT.
