BUNDLE-TIE Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, J osErH E. VRIGHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Caliente, in the county of Lincoln and State of Nevada, have invented new and useful Improvenients in Bundle-Ties, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a bundle tie which is especially adapted for tying together bundles of letters, papers, or similar articles and the prime object thereof is to provide a tie which maybe used indefinitely for successive packages without deterioration, thus obviating the expense. of a separate tie for each and every package which is handled.

To thisend my device consists of a combination of parts which enables the bundles to be readily tied and untied without the actual necessity of tying and untying a knot.

I accomplish the above by means of the device described herein and illustrated inthe accompanying drawings in which :-f

Referring to the drawings 5 designates a bundle of letters which it is desirable to securely tie together and on which my tie is placed. The tie consists of a strap 6 which may be of leather or of any other suitable material and is of sufficient length to pass around the largest bundle to be tied. To one end of strap 6 is riveted or otherwise secured a button 7, around which the other en d of the strap is secured when the tie is placed upon a bundle. This button may be formed of any suitable material and is preferably composed of a base 8 having an aperture 9 therein for convenience in hanging the tie lon a support when not in use, and alsofor lessening the amount of material used in the construction of the button. Upon base 8a shank 10 is mounted which carries a head 11 upon its upper end. Head 11 is formed with a notch 12 on one side and a projecting prong 13 approximately on the opposite side, there also being a slight notch 14 at one side of the prong and directly opposite notch 12. Prong `wardly over button 11 in notch 12.

13 also has a notch or depression 15 in its lower side to prevent the strap from slipping od its end.

In securing a bundle with my improved tie, strap 6 is first passed. endwise around the bundle as at 16, button 7 being placed in a central position on the upper side of the bundle as illustrated. The strap is passed around shank 10 as at 17 and is then passed crosswise around the bundle as at 18 coming back to the button again. The end of the stra is then passed under the other portion of t 1e strap as at 19 andis then passed 'p 1e strap is then finally loo ed around prong 13 in the configuration s own at 20 and is pulled down tightly u on the button. To remove this tie it is on y necessary to grasp the portion of the strap which passes around the shank at 17 and pull it outwardly and upwardly over the head ofthe button when the whole tie may be easily removed from the bundle without any necessity of untying the knot or loop. The end of the strap is provided with a curved metallic sheath 21 which facilitates the tying operation.

From the foregoing description it will be observed that I have provided a tie which is especially useful. where bundles of such objects as letters, papers and the like must be secured together for transportation. In tying these bundles as is now done large quantities of cord and string are used which are thrown away upon the bundles reaching their destination. This expense is entirely obviated by my improved tie as it may bex used repeatedly for successive bundles with facility.

Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A bundle tie comprising a strap, and a button secured to one end of said strap, said button comprising a fiat base adapted to rest upon the bundle, a shank mounted on said base, and a head on the end of said shank, said heah being rovided with a prong on one side and a notc on its opposite side.
