Description

NITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
IMPROVEMENT IN BOTTLE-STOPPERS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 91,349, dated June 15, 1869.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, F. KUTSGHER, of New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented anew`lmprovement in Bottle-Stoppers; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-
Figure 1, a side view of the bottle closed; Fig. 2, a central section as when free from the neck; and in Fig. 3 a central section as compressed into the neck.
This invention relates to an improvement in stoppers for bottles such as are retained upon the bottle after it is opened, being designed especiallyT for soda-water, ale, or similar beverages; and consists in a rubber plug combined with a plate, the under surface of which is of a conical form, and to which arubber plug is attached, so that the cone upon the under side of the plate presses into and expands the rubber.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the same as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
A is a plug, of india-rubber or similar material B, a plate, upon the under side of which is formed a cone, a., by preference formed by depressing upon the upper side, as seen in Figs. 2 and 3.
The plug A is attached to the plate B by a central connection, d, so that when the plate B is pressed down into the plug, as seen '1n Fig. 3, the plug will be expanded by means of the cone.
The plate B is hinged to the bottle by a linkconnection, C, and secured thereto by a loop, D, as seen in Fig. 1.
I do not wish to be understood as broadly claiming a metallic plate hinged to the bottle, and the india-rubber plug attached to the plate, as such, I am aware, is not new; but,
Having fully described my invention, what I do claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the plate B, having the cone a formed upon its under side, and conibined with the plug A, so that the said cone serves to expand the plug, as and for the purpose specified.
F. KUTSCHER.
