Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE@ A. H. FORBES, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
UNDETACHABLE SWINGING BOTTLE-STOPPER.
Specification forming part of' Letters Patent No. 6,297, dated April 10, 1849.
To all whom, it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, ARCHIBALD H. FonEEs, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Bottle- Stopper and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this speciication.
Figure l is a perspective view showing the manner in which my improvedv bottlestopper is connected to the neck of a bott-le.
The metallic cap A has a piece of cork or india-rubber secured in the same, which is confined over the mouth F of the bottle, as follows: rlhe legs m m, which project from the cap A, are connected to the ring c, passing round the bottle-neck, by means oi' the jointpins f f. Thejoint-pins ff project into the grooves d in the bottle-neck, which serve to secure the cap or stopper over the mouth of the bottle, and also serve to prevent the cap from being detached from the bottle. Vhen the cap is pressed down with suiiicientforce to securely close the mouth of the bottle, the points of the joint-pins ff are brought opposite tothe horizontal portion of the grooves d. The cap is then turned so as to bring the points into this portion of the grooves, and thereby is securely coniined in its position over the mouth of the bottle. Vhen the mouth of the bottle is to be uncovered, the cap A is turned so as to bring the points of the joint-pins ff into the vertical portion ot' the grooves d, when the cap can be elevated and turned to one side, as represented in Fig. l.
I-Iaving thus fully described my improved bottle-stopper, what I claim therein as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The manner of closing the mouth of a bottle by means of the undetachable metallic cap A, having cork or india-rubber, or both, placed in the top of the same, and secured to the neck of the bottle by means ofthe ring c, the j oint-pins ff, and the grooves d in the bottle` neck, substantially in the manner herein set iorth.
