HENRY F. JOHNSON, OF BRISTOW, OKLAHOMA.
DETAOHABLE-LEAF GHEGK AND PASS BOOK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 15, 1908.
Application filed. April 15, 1908. Serial N 0. 427,126.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY F. J OHNSON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Bristow, county of Greek, and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Detachable-Leaf Check and Pass Books; and I hereby certify and declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
My invention relates to a detachable leaf check book in combination with the ordinary bank ass book, which may be used to combine t e check book and pass book into one book and as one pass book commonly outlasts several check books, my invention provides for the insertion of a fresh tablet of checks attached to their stubs, when the supply of the first tablet is exhausted.
The invention is comprised essentially in providing the ordinary pass book with an elastic band attached to the rear cover at a point near to but outside the flexible connection by means of which a tablet of checks is confined at its middle fold.
The object of this invention is to bind the check tablet to the cover by a strong and inexpensive fastening which also serves as a loop for removably attaching the check tablet to the main cover.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a top plan view of my improved check and pass book, showing the book open to the check tablet, Fig. 2 is an end view of the book in an open position, Fig. 3 is a top plan view showing the elastic strap attached to the back cover, Fig. 4 is an end view of the book in a closed position. Fig. 5 shows the precise connection of the elastic with the cover.
In theconstruction of my improved check and pass book, I take the ordinary bank pass book, provided with a light flexible cover A A, in which the leaves of the book are firmly attached to the cover at its flexible connection, in any suitable manner. Such covers are ordinarily made by gumming a thin paste-board to an outer leather back. In practice, I separate the pasteboard from the leather at both ends of the book for approximately an inch from the respective margins thereof and near to the flexible connection between the covers and I secure to the inner surface of the pasteboard at both ends of the book, the ends of a narrow elastic band C bending upon itself at C preferably of rubber tape covered with woven cotton or silk, forming an 7 elastic strap adapted to lie inside the cover of the book and be stretched to a reasonable degree of tightness at a point approximately a quarter of an inch from the fold of the cover. The paste-board which was pried loose from the leather is again smoothly gummed to its place and a tablet of checks B corresponding in size to the body of the pass book B and sewed or stapled together at their middle fold, may he slipped underneath the elastic band 0, whereby said tablet is kept in alinement with the pages in the pass book. a
This device is convenient as it combines in one book, a bank book and a check book thus obviating the inconvenience of employing separate books. While making a deposit, the check book is covered from view and when all the checks have been used, the stubs are easily detached and another check tablet inserted in its place.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The combination of a folding cover a pass book attached to the central hinge or fold of the cover and an elastic band attached to the right hand leaf of said cover at a point near to but outside the central hinge or fold thereof adapted to receive a tablet along the line of its middle fold and attach said tablet thereby to the cover substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of 1 two subscribing witnesses.
HENRY F. JOHNSON.
