IMPROVEMENT IN WRITING-TABLETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 208,488, dated October 1, 1878; application filed April 18, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM E. OBRYoN, of Ionia, county of Ionia, and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Writing-Tablets, of which the following is a specification:
The device consists of a combination of parts, to be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claim.
The box is constructed of binders board or other similar material, and may be covered with enameled paper, cloth, leather, &c., and maybe embellished to please the taste, and may be made of any dimensions suitable for the purposes for which it is designed.
Referring to the annexed drawing, the figure represents the box opened, with the tablet of stationery in its place in position for use.
A represents the tablet of stationery as it appears when first placed in position, and before any portion of it has been used. B represents the cover of the box, and is made of the material as above specified, and in the same manner as the covers of ordinary paperboxes, except that the end at which the tablet is attached, as hereinafter described, is left against the sides and end of this tablet, permitting the cover to be closed over the whole, and to this end the cover should be made enough wider than the tablet to permit this to be done. These sides and end are attached to the bed or bottom by means of a thin but strong hinge of muslin, extending their entire length, and attached to the respective parts by muoilage,

F represents the means by which the tablet is firmly attached to the bed or bottom and cover, which means consist of a strip of cloth of any desired kind or quality, to which is firmly glued the tablet, in such a manner as to hold it to its place, and at the same time permit each sheet thereof to be detached as used. This strip of cloth is made of sufficient width to form a flap at the top and bottom of the tablet,- one of which is attached to the bed or bottom of the box and the other to the cover, forming a hinge in either case, which permits the cover to be readily opened without dis v turbing the tablet inclosed.
What I claim as my invention is- As a new article of manufacture, the herein-described writing-tablet, consisting of the pack of detachable sheets A, attached to the flexible strip F, which connects the top and bed, the latter being provided with the hinged sides and ends C E D, as and for the purpose set forth.
