J. A. VAUTROT CHECK BOOK HOLDER Filed April 15, 1925 Patented June 16, 1925..
JOSEPH VAU'I'ROI, OF MOBILE, ALABAMA.
canon-nook HOLDER.
Application filed April 15, 1925. Serial No. 83,377.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Josnrn A. Yap'mor, a citizen of the United States, res1d1n at Mobile, in the county of Mobile and tate 6 of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Check- Book Holders, of which the following is a spec1fication. a
This invention relates to check book holders and more articularly to means for retainin a check k in an open position.
An o ject of the invention is the provision of-an attachment for foldable check book holders, such as are generally used 16 for small check books, that may be placed in the holder, and is invisible and which will open the check book and the holder to a flat position when the catch retaining the holder in closed position is released.
More specifically, I provide a leaf sprin ada ted to be placed in the checkaboo hol er at the point where it is folded, which s ring is placed under tension when the, c eck book and holder are folded and which will open the check book and holder to a flat position when the catch is released.
In the accompanying drawings, I have shown one embodiment of the invention. 'Inthis showing: I
Figure 1 is a. rspective view of a check book holder in c osed position,
Figure 2 is a similar view in open position,
Figure 3 is a transverse vertical sectional view substantially on line 33 of Figure 2,
Figure 4 is a central longitudinal sectional.
view showing the position of the agnand,
' Fi re 5 is a perspective view 0 the spring detac d.
Referring to the drawings, the reference numeral 1 designates the body portion of a check book holder which is made of imitation leather, or similar material and is rovided with a fla. 2 at one end ada ted to folded over the rec end of the portion when the holder is in closed position (see Figure 1). The free end of the holder is provided with a fastener 3, ada ted to be received in a socket 4 carried y the flap in the usual manner. A check book 5 is adapted to be arranged in the holder and.is provided with the usual stubs 6, at one end. The
stubs are arranged in a suitable binding 7 and this bindin is provided with a flap or projection 8 which is adapted to be received in a pocket 9 formed in the holder. This pocket extends throu hout the length 1 of the holder and a lea s ring 10 is placed therein in the manner sl iown in Figures 3 and 4 of the drawings. The leaf spring may be provided with a suitable covering 11 60. so that 1t is normally invisible.
At the opposite end of the holder, I provide a coi spring 12 having an arm 13 adapted to'be received in the adjacent end of the pocket 9 and havin a second arm 0 14 parallel thereto adapts to engage the free edges of the checks.
' The operation of the device will be apparent from the foregoing description. When the checkbook holder, which is flexi- 7 ble, is folded. in the manner shown in Figure 1 of the drawin the spring 10 is moved from the dotte line position shown in Figure 5 of the drawings, to the full line position and placed under tension. As lon 1" as the catch 3 is closed, the check book an holder will remain in closed position to facilitate carrying the check book in the pocket, but as soon as the catch is opened, the spring automatically opens the check book to the flat position shown in Figure 2 of the drawings to facilitate writing a check.
The arms 13 14 of the spring 12 retain the free ends of the checks adjacent the check book holder and prevent them from becoming folded or torn.
t is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the s irit of the invention or the scope of the subjomed claims.
I claim .1. The combination with a foldable check book holder com rising a body portion adapted to be fol ed intermediate its ends. and a flap carried by one endv of said bottom portion and adapted to be detachably secured to the other end when in closed position, of a spring carried by said body portion and extending on opposite sides of said intermediate point, said spring being curd to tho other ond'. when in closed position, of n sub tantinlly flat spring onm'iofl by said body portion, and oxivendlng from a, point ad acent one end to a, point ndjaoent the other end thereof.
and a flap carried by one end; of said? bottom portion and. adopted to be domohobliy so- ]In tostimony wheroof, I afix my signature.
JUSEPH A. VAUTRQT.
