DRE SSS-FORM.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. l, 1908.
Application filed April 2, 1907. Serial No. 366,016.
To all whom. it may concern:
lie it known that l, lame LnviN, a citizen ot the lfnited States, residing at Brooklyn, .Kings county, inthe State of New York, have invented certain new and useful .lmprovemeiits in Dress-Forms, of which the following is a clear, full, and exact description. t
This invention relates to garment forms, particularly to that class used for the purpose otl hanging or draping garments, the object otl the invention being to provide a practical garment ,form which can be readily adjusted to suit different measurei'nents and which can be folded into a compact structure when not in use.
)t further object of my invention is to provide a simple seit-locking adjusting element by whlch the trame members of the said term can be adjusted., 1n combination with other elements which will hereinafter appear.
lu the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specilicationV-Figure 1 illustrates a side elevation of a garment forni embodying my improvements; Fig: 2 is a central vertical sectional View thereof, the central shaft being shown in elevation and the frame at the back having been omitted for greater cleat-ness; F 3 is an enlarged detail view of the self-locking adjusting means; Fig. -l is an enlarged cross-sectional view thereof, the lView being taken on a line ro in Fig. 3. looking in the direction of the arrow; Fig. 5 is a top plan View of the binding element for the trame-wires and which also supports thc adjusting elements; Fig. is a perspective View thereof; Fig. 7 is an enlarged side elevation of the central shaftcollars which pivotally support the inner ends of the adjusting elements; Fig. 8 is a top plan View thereot; andl Fig. 9 is a crosssectional plan View of my improved garment forni, the section being taken on a line in Fig. l. A
Like numerals of reference are intended to indicato .corresponding parts in the several views.
ln the accompanying drawings, the numeral 1 indicates the Central shaft of my improved garment-form, which at its upper end is enlarged, at 2, a portion 3 of which is threaded lett-handed, and a portion 4i hreadi-wl right-handed. Upon said left and riglit-handed portions, collars 5 and 6 are adapted to travel, said collars being threaded to correspond to the threads upon which they travel, in obvious manner. From the collars 5 and '6 ribs 7 and 8, respectively, extend to binding-elements 9. Said binding-elements have an inwardly extending member 10 (see Fig. G) to which said ribs 7,8 are connected at the outer ends thereof. An eye or passage 11 is also provided upon said binding element, through which. l reave a measuring tape 12. The binding element S) is preferably struck from one piece'ot metal -t'or purposes of economy. The region of the binding elements S) correspond approximately to the waist-line. Intermediate of the to'p and bottomof the ligure or form `binding elements 13 are positioned, said position corresponding approximately to the hip-line. The binding elements 13 are of the same construction as the elements S). Adjacent to the hip region a collar 14 is slidably mounted on the shaft 1, and from said collar to the elements 13 self-locking adjusting-v ribs 15 are extended, which are composed of the members lo and 17, otset as at 1S, said members 1G and 17 contacting each other at the sur aces 19 (see Fig. 3). After the men'iliers 1U and 17 are placed together, their ends are turned over to forni an eye 2t), the eye 2t) ot' one member embracing the opposite member Fig. 4;). Then the eyes are bent or formed, they draw the members 16 and 1T firmly together, thereby creating a strong trictional contact, and when said members aremoved for adjusting purposes they will stay where put, thus forming an automatic lock.
'lhrough the eyes l1 ot the binding elements 13, l reav'e a measuring tape 22a. Aidjacent to the bottom of the form, I place binding` elements 22, which are formed the same as the elements t) and 13, only without eyes. 'lfhe said, lower binding elements 22 are connected to a slidable collar 23 by adjustable ribs 25, which, like the ribs 15, are composed ot' the slidable members 26 and 27. As the last named ribs are made the same way as the ribs 15,' no further detailed description thereof will be given. The collar is held in the desired position by a bindiilg-screw 24. The bottom otl the flexible wire-trame members 2f) of the form are held by Landing elements 30, preferably made of one piece. The binding- elements 9, 13, 22 and are provided at the ends thereof with eyes or passages such the eyes 3l in Fig. 6, Through these eyes the i e Wires 29 are passed, as will be seen in EZ end vfrietionally .held substantially iii th' manner shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The shaft l may be held by any suitable brise, such 39, in Fig. l.
As Will be seen by FiO. 9, each pair of ribs rare of forked formation, that is, form a forklike structure, the inner ends 33 being pivotaily, heid in jaws 33"" iuteg el with the eeihrr 23, which eenl he east7 drop forged or stamped` The collar Q3 und ribs have been selecte@ for iihistretion, the eeustriretioii being used for the cellars (3. 5 zuid 14 and ri 7, S und 16 respeetiveiy.
rihe ribs 29 can be drawn in, or forced outwardly2 es Wiii be seen by the dotted lines 34 and in remaining the sume, rThe waistdiue dime sion can be changed et wili by revoiviiigv the form ori its shaft, whereby the eoiiars .3 and G can be caused to approach or recede, due to the right :md left-hund threads 3 and e. n other words, by mums of. my iur proved construction, can get :my desired Waist-line dimension without changing the hip. dimension, or I can change the hip dimension Without changing theI nist di.- mension. can also produce a [hit or full front- Without ehuneing the hip or WaistV dimension, the Various Changes which i een produce being too obvious 'ror detuiied de.- seriptiou. To maire the Various Changes it is simply necessary to pui] the adjustable rib-members outwardly or push them in wardiy to the desired ericht, the 'ifrietioli'zd Contact between s id rib-members hoidiiig them in the adjus ed position, has heretofore been expisiii'ied, whereby the necessity of manually operated ioeking devices is ob- Vinted To oid the lfom? it, is but necessary to push the rzuiuewires 25) und adjust.- abie ribs iiiwardiy7 Whereieiy the structure will fold, in the manner of u uuibreihi. The tapes 12 und 221 can be used to get the dimensions of the Various hip and waist-line changes, and by means of the adjustable ribs,
