FIGURE TOY.
SJPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 693,339, dated February 1 1, 1902.
Application filed May 23, 1901. Serial-ll'o. 61,594. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RALPH TILTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Figure Toy, of which the following is a specification.
My inventionrelates to figure toys, and has for its objects to mount upon a card the figure of a human being, which is attached to the card at certain points, and to provide means to move the parts of the body not attached. I attain these objects by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a view of a card having ahuman figure attached thereto according to my invention, and Fig. 2 is a central section of the card and of the figure thereon and of the means to operate parts of the same.
In the accompanying drawings similar numerals of reference refer to the same parts in each of the views, and in the practice of myinvention I provide a card 5 having an aperture 6 centrally thereof, over which I mount a human figure 7, which is attached to the card 5 by the head 8 and the feet 9.
In order to make the bodyof the figure stand out in relief from the card, I prefer to emboss the card, as shown at 10, beneath the breast of the figure, and from the breast down to the feet the material forming the body and limbs is loosely mounted, as shownin Fig. 2.
The material forming the figure is preferably sheet-rubber decorated to represent a human being, and the arms 11 are drawn forward, and the hands 12 are clasped together in front of the breast in the position naturally selected by a person performing fancy movements with the'muscles of the'body and limbs.
Secured to the under side of the figure 7 and passing through the aperture 6 is a flexible strip 13, composed ofheavy paper or similar material and by means of which the parts of the body may be operated, as will be readily understood. V
In operation the card 5 is held in one hand while the strip 13 is grasped between the thumb and fingers of the other hand, preferably close to the card, and by moving the that the hands are secured together will vibrate in unison with other parts of the body, aswill be readily understood.
I do not limit myself to the exact arrangement or construction of parts herein disclosed,
for many changes may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention, such as substituting a small piece of material for the embossed part 10, or omitting this feature entirely, and in the construction and decoration of the human figure, and many other changes.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A figure toy comprising a card having 7o an aperture therein, a human figure com posed of flexible material mounted thereover, and secured to the face of said card by portions of the body thereof, and means to flexibly operate the unattached portions of said figure, for the purpose set forth.
2. A figure toy comprising a card having; an aperture therein, a human figure composed of flexible material mounted over said aperture and secured to the face of said card by port-ions of the body thereof, and a strip of material attached to the under side of the unattached portion of said figure and passing through said aperture, as and for the purpose set forth.
3. A figure toy comprising a card having an aperture therein, a human figure com posed of flexible material mounted over said aperture and secured to said card at the head and feet, and a strip of "flexible material seod cured to the under side of the body portion of said'figure and extending through said aperture, as and for the purpose set forth.
4. A figure toy comprising a card having an aperture therein, a human figure mounted thereover and secured to said card at the head and feet, and a strip of flexible material sename to this specification in the presence of cured to the under side of the body portion two subscribing Witnesses.
of said fi ui'e, and. passin throu h said apern 1 tnre, saici card being embossed beneath the RALPH 1 5 upper part of the body of said figure, as and \Vitnesses:
G. M. HOS-SACK,
for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my J 08. RooNEY.
