Description

M. L. SCHWAR- HAIR RIBBON HOLDER. APPLICATION FILED MAY 18, 1908.
' Patented Nov. 24, 1908.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MANUEL L. SCHWAB, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
HAIR-RIBBON HOLDER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MANUEL L. ScHwAB, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, Essex county, State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hair-Ribbon Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a hair ribbon holder of novel construction, which may be readily adjusted to the shape of the head or the fancy of the wearer, and displays the ribbon to great advantage.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved hair ribbon holder; Fig. 2 a detail of the end of the band; Fig. 3 a detail of the end of the comb, and Fig. at a detail of the joint betwee comb and band.
The hair ribbon holder consists essentially of a curved comb 10 and of a curved band 11 removably attached to the comb by separable axially. alined fasteners 12. The comb 10 is so curved that its head as well as its teeth are arranged in the arc of a circle. The band 11 is also arranged in an are, it being shown to be of substantially semi-oval form.
The corelation of the parts is such that the diameter of the comb at its open end corresponds substantially to the minor axis of the band at its open end, so that the parts,
when connected, constitute complements to each other, and form, collectively, one complete endless figure or ring.
Comb l0 and band 11 overlap at their ends, and here carry the fasteners 12, which, besides securing the parts to each other, constitute axially alined fulcrums on which the Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 18, 1908. Serial No. 433,426.
Patented Nov. 24, 1908.
band may be swung up at an angle to the comb to any desired extent. The band, though of cylindrical form at its ends to .make proper connection with the comb,
gradually assumes a coniform shape or taper towards its center, so as to flare outwards from its upper edge towards its lower edge and thus lie in a more or less tangential position upon the forehead. By this construction the appearance of the band is improved and objectionable edgewise pressure on the head avoided.
Comb 10 is provided with openings 13 through which a hair ribbon 14 may be drawn. Band 11 is provided with similar openings 15 for the reception of ribbon 16. If desired ribbons 14, 16 may be made in one piece, but it is preferred that two separate ribbons be used, so that the comb and band may be worn either together or separate.
My improved holder forms a. neat ornament for the hair, may be worn in different styles, holds the hair well together, and displays the ribbon to great advantage.
I claim:
A hair ribbon holder, comprising a curved comb, and an arched band pivoted thereto, said band flaring outwards from its upper edge towards its lower edge, specified.
Signed by me at New York city, (Manhattan,) N. Y., this 16th day of May, 1908.
MANUEL L. SOHWAB.
