Description

PATENTED AUG. 18, 1908. I
G. L. DEPOLLIER. UHATELAINE BROOCH WATCH. APPLICATION FILED FEB 29 1908 UNITED STATES PATENT oFFroE CHARLES L. DEPOLLIER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO DUBOIS WATCH CASE C0,, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
CHATELAINE-BROOCI-I WATCH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 18, 1908.
Application filed Februaryl29, 1908. Serial No. 418,468.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES L. DEPOL- LIER, a citizen of the United States, residing in New York, in the borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Chatelaine-Brooch Watches, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a combined ladys watch and chatelaine-brooch to which I have given the name of chatelaine brooch watch in which the chatelaine-brooch is swiveled to the base of the watch-pendant so as to form a very ornamental and attractive ladys watch for direct suspension from the garment; and for this purpose the invention consists of a watch provided with a chatelaine-brooch which is hinged to a cross-bar swiveled to the pendant, said brooch being provided with means for direct attachment to the garment as will appear from the following description and claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a front-elevation of my improved chatelaine-brooch Watch, Fig. 2 is a rearview of the same, and 3 is a side-view.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawings, a represents a ladys watch and b the pendant of the same. At the base of the pendant b is swiveled a cross-bar d which is provided at its ends with bent-up perforated ears (1 to which the lower ends of the chatelaine-brooch e are hinged by means of perforated ears d made integral therewith and between which the ears (1 enter. The chatelaine-brooch may be made of any suitable construction and ornamentation. It is provided at its rear-side with a transverse bar 6 to one end of which is hinged a pin-tongue e at 6 while to the opposite end of the chatelaine-brooch a stationary receiving-catch e is arranged, as shown clearly in Fig. 2. The pin-tongue c and catch 6 permit the direct attachment of the chatelaine-brooch and watch suspended therefrom to the garment without requiring a separate brooch-pin or bow as heretofore. The watch can be readily turned up when suspended from the garment on its hingeconnection with the swiveled cross-bar so as to read off the time. The watch can also be turned on the swiveled cross-bar so as to have a certain freedom of motion on its axis and permit the watch to be carried with the back.
or face exposed to view. The watch can also be suspended from a chain in which case the bar 6 is swiveled at its center to the chatelaine-brooch, so as to be moved into vertical position, and provided with an eye f hinged to the end adjacent to the catch 0 The eye f serves when turned up over the I pointed end of the pin-tongue as a guard for preventing the detaching and releasing of the pin-tongue from the catch and the consequent loss of the chatelaine-brooch watch.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. The combination, with the pendant of a watch, of a cross-bar swiveled to the base of the pendant, said cross-bar being provided at the ends with bent-up and perforated ears,
and a chatelaine-brooch hinged to said ears and provided with means for attachment to a garment.
2. The combination, with the pendant of a Watch, of a cross-bar swiveled to the pendant and provided at its ends with bent-up ears,
and a chatelaine-brooch having end-portions provided with integral ears between which said first-named ears enter and to which they are connected to form a hinge connection be tween the brooch and cross-bar.
In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES L. DEPOLLIER.
