Description

C. LOMBRA. MULTIFAGED DOLL.
APPLIoATIoN FILED AUG. 5, 1912.

UNITED s TATiz-s PArENroFFi-or..
CHESTER LOIBRA, 0F MERIDEN, CONNECTUUT. l
To all whom, it may concern.'
Be it known that I, CHESTER LoMBRA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Me-riden, in the county of New Haven and 5 State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Multifaced Dolls; and I do declare the following to be a fuil, clear, and exact description ofthe invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. t
This invention relates to improvements in dolls.
One object of the invention is to provide a doll with a plurality of super-posed movable faces so` arranged that any one of them may be exposed when desired.
Another object of the invention is to provide a doll having one fixed rality of movable faces disposed one over the other, the faces being so connected as to uncover the face desired to be exposed and position the face not in use out of sight.
Another object is to provide simple, eflicient and ornamental means for fastening the faces 1n operative positlon.
With these and other objects in view thelnvention consists of certain novel features` of construction, combination and-arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings; Figure 1.
represents a ront elevation of a doll equipped with this improvement and with t le facesv arranged in superposed relation andthe exposed face showing a pleased expression; Fig. 2 is a similar view showing` a crying face Fig. 3 represents a vertical section through the doll face and the dress taken on the line 3-.-3 of Fig. 1 the body and head bein shown in side elevation.
In the embo iment illustrated, a ragvdoll body l is shown having a head 2 fixed thereon and provided with a permanent face 3. This face 3 is shown with a pleasing ex- `pression and 'is the foundation on which other faces to be described are superposed.
Any desired number ofl faces maybe embered 4', 5, and 6 respectively. These faces 4, 5' and 6 are connected at their neck por- 'tion to the neck of the doll by sewing or in any other silitable manner, whereby, the faces may be turned down and hiddenunder the clothing'of the doll 1when not in use.

der the other with the face 6 on the 0utside and are held in place-by vmeans-of a bandeau 7 composed of Celluloid or of any suitable material and preferably secured at its ends to 'the neck of the doll `by a pin. or pintle 8 which hingedly connects the bandeau and permits it to beturned downward when desired for releasing the faces. This bandeau is held in operative position by any suitable means, a pin 9 be ing'l here shown inserted through a hole in the bandeau and extended into the head of the doll. Any suitable ornamentation may be provided for pthe bandeau, a -bow 10 being shown arranged at one side thereof.
The faces 4, 5 and 6 may represent crying, laughin or other expressions and when it is desire to expose one of them, those overlyingare all folded downward and arranged under the dress of the doll out of sight. Bandeau 7 is then arranged in place over each of the faces to be exposed at the point where the face is supposed to join the head of the doll and said bandeau is there .secured by the .pin 9 or otherwise. It is thus obvious that by removing the pin 9 and turning bandeau 7 downward any one of the other faces desired may be exposed and by replacing the bandeau and pin 9 said face will be held securely in operative position.v
While this invention is shown ap lied to a rag doll itis of course to be un erstood that it may be applied to any other doll,
the principle being the same.
I claimas my invention;
. 1. A doll having a fixed face and a movable face hingedly connected thereto, said movable face being mounted to be superposed on said xed face and to be removed when desired. v
2. A doll having a plurality connected faces adapted to be superposed on each othery and one only exposed at a time, and means for holding said faces in operative position.
3. 'A doll having a plurality of movable faces adapted to be superposed on each other, and a bandeau pivotally mounted to hold said faces in operative osition.
4. A doll having a plurality of movable faces adapted to be superposed on each other, a bandeau pivotally connected by its ends to the doll head and means for securing 'said bandeau in operative engageof movably -ment with the head and the face to-be se- In testimony whereof I have hereunto set cured thereby. v `my hand in presence of two subscribing wit- 5.
