FIGS. 8A-8C are three different side plan views of a doll head according to yet another embodiment of the present invention. -
FIG. 8D is a top plan view of the doll head ofFIGS. 8A-8C . - The following detailed description is of the best presently contemplated modes of carrying out the invention. This description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating general principles of embodiments of the invention. The scope of the invention is best defined by the appended claims.
- The present invention provides a doll assembly that allows the head to be removed and replaced by a different head. Each head is provided with two separate faces on opposite sides of the head so that the doll can assume two different identities or characters when the head is attached to the torso of the doll. In addition, a variety of different wigs can be removably secured to the top of each head to provide increased variety of play.
- Referring to
FIGS. 1A-1D , thedoll 10 has atorso 12 which includes arms 14 andlegs 16, as with any conventional doll. The arms 14 andlegs 16 can be provided with appendages so that the arms 14 andlegs 16 can be pivoted and moved. Ahead 18 can be removably secured to theneck 20 of thetorso 12 in the manner shown inFIG. 3 . - Referring also to
FIGS. 2 and 3 , eachhead 18 has two faces 22 a, 22 b on opposite sides thereof. The two faces 22 a and 22 b are different, and in the embodiment shown inFIG. 1A , the face 22 a can be an ordinary and conventional face, while the other face 22 b can be mysterious face. Therefore, a doll that has such ahead 18 can be portrayed with having two different personalities. As shown inFIG. 1A , eachhead 18 has two pairs of eyes (one pair for each face), two pairs of ears (one pair for each face), two noses (one for each face), and two mouths (one for each face). Anopening 24 is provided at the top of thehead 18 for receiving apin 26 from areplaceable wig 28. Another opening 30 is provided at the bottom of thehead 18 for receiving awinged locking pin 32 that extends from the top of theneck 20 of thetorso 12. - Referring now to
FIGS. 1A-1D , 2, 3 and 4A-4D, the child can select any desireddoll head 18, and then install thedoll head 18 to thetorso 12 by inserting thewinged locking pin 32 through the opening 30. Thus, the opening 30 and the neck 20 (i.e., via the locking pin 32) function as connectors. Since the lockingpin 32 is winged, thewinged portions 34 can be flexed so as to allow thelocking pin 32 to be inserted through the opening 30, with thewinged portions 34 maintaining thedoll head 18 at the neck 20 (seeFIGS. 3 and 4A ). Once thehead 18 has been installed at theneck 20, the child can decide which face to feature by turning thehead 18 around theneck 20 so that the selected face faces the front (seeFIG. 4B ). The child can then select the desiredwig 28, and insert thepin 26 through theopening 24 to secure thewig 28 in a snap-fit connection at the top of the head 18 (seeFIGS. 2 and 4C ). Thus, theopening 24 and thepin 26 function as connectors. Thewig 28 can rotated (if desired), or removed later to be replaced by adifferent wig 28. The child can also rotate thehead 18 to select the other face, then rotate thewig 28 as needed, to change the face and/or thewig 28 being used. SeeFIGS. 1C , 1D and 4D. - A plurality of
different heads 18 can be provided for use with asingle torso 12.FIGS. 5A-5D illustrate four different faces. The faces shown inFIGS. 5A and 5D correspond to the two faces provided on thehead 18 shown inFIGS. 1A-1D and 2-3, while the faces shown inFIGS. 5B and 5C can be the two faces provided on adifferent head 18. - Similarly, a plurality of
different wigs 28 can be provided for use with theheads 18.FIGS. 6A-6D illustrate four different wigs that can be used with faces inFIGS. 5A-5D . - The
head 18 can be provided with more than two faces. For example,FIGS. 7A and 7B illustrate a doll head 18 x having four separate anddifferent faces face - Similarly,
FIGS. 8A-8D illustrate adoll head 18 y having three separate and different faces 22 g, 22 h and 22 i. Each face 22 g, 22 h and 22 i has two pairs of eyes (one pair for each face), two pairs of ears (one pair for each face), three noses (one for each face), and three mouths (one for each face). - Thus, the present invention provides a doll assembly that allows the user to change the face of a doll so that the doll can assume different personalities and/or identities. In addition, by allowing different wigs to be removably coupled to the head(s), the user can accompany the change in personality and/or identity of the doll by an appropriate change in the hair color and style.
- While the description above refers to particular embodiments of the present invention, it will be understood that many modifications may be made without departing from the spirit thereof. The accompanying claims are intended to cover such modifications as would fall within the true scope and spirit of the present invention.
