Description
R. BOLLE.
HAIR ORNAMENT.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT- 7. 1915 1 ,1 85, 1 72. Patented May 30, 1916.
RUDOLF BOLLE, OF PAWTUCKET, RHODE ISLAND.
HAIR. ORNAMENT.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, RUDoLr B LLE, a citizen of the United States, and resident of the city of 'Pawtucket, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, .have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair Ornaments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to hair ornaments, and has for its object to provide a hair pin and to mount an ornamental member thereon in such a way that it may be adjusted relative to the pin.
It is found in practice, when ornaments are worn in the hair by ladies, owing to close fitting of the hats, that'it is often necessary to remove the ornament before the hat can be applied, and to obviate this difficulty, I have mounted an ornament on a hair pin in such a way that the same may be adjusted relative to the pin, whereby the ornament may be turned up, to one side, or in any other desired position after the hat has been removed, or it may be turned downward and intothe most compact or out of the way position, so as not to be in the way when the hat is to be placed upon the head.
l Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a front elevation showing the hair ornament as attached to a hair pin and turned upward relative to the same, also illustrating in dotted lines that it may be turned to either one side or the other, or downward as desired. Fig. 2- is an edge view of the hair pin showing the ornament as being both hinged and pivotally mounted on the pin. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the pivoting hinge block. Fig. 4 is a perspective .view of the pivoting hinge block with the hinge member operatively mounted.
Referring to the drawings 10 designates the hair pin which may be constructed of shell, celluloid, metal, or other suitable material, and bent or formed into the desired shape, and 11 designates the ornament which may be made of any suitable material and in any desired ornamental shape.
The primary object of my invention is to so mount this ornament on the pin that it may receive a universal action thereon so Specification of Letters Patent.

that it may be moved, turned, and set into any desired position to suit the fancy or style of head-dress, of the wearer. To accomplish this ob ect I have provided a block member 12 which is substantially fiat on its under surface 13, and is cut out as at 14: forming end members 15 between which the hinge members 16 may be adjustably mounted on the transverse pivot pin 17. This block member 12 is provided with a pivot pin 18 which extends through it, at substantially a right angle to the base of the block and through the hair-pin, see Fig. 2 by means of which the block is adapted to rotate on the pin.
The hinge member 16 is provided with a flattened face 19 which may be connected by cement or other suitable means to the under side of the head-dress 11.
- By this construction it will be seen that the ornamental head-dress 11 may be swung either upward or downward on the hinge member 16 and at the same time be rotated on the pivot 18 and so be carried either to the right or to the left or up or down and into any desired position.
A feature of this construction is that the adjustable member forwardly offsets the ornament on the pin and is connected to the under side of this member, and also that this member completely covers the pivoted hingeblock, and no rivets or other attaching means are visible on the exposed surface to mar the attractive appearance of the ornament.
Another feature in this special construction and arrangement of my improved hair ornament, is that by offsetting the ornament forwardly upon the face of the pin, when the device is placed in position in the hair of the wearer the hair fibers crowned in between the pin and the ornament and securely retain the latter in any adjusted position on the head.
I claim:
1. The combination with a hair pin, of a supporting block having a swivel connection therewith, and an ornament-supporting hinge member pivotally attached to said block and arranged to swing transversely of the axis of the swivel connection.
2. The combination with a hair pin, of a supporting block having a swivel connection therewith, said block being provided at its ends with ears, an ornament-supporting hinge member located between said ears, and a pivot pin extending through said ears and said hinge member.
3. The combination with a hair pin, of a supporting block provided at its ends with out-standing ears, a swivel member passed through the body of said block and attached to said hair pin, and an ornament-supporting hinge member pivotally mounted between said ears.
4. The combination with a hair pin, and a swivel pin carried thereby, of a supporting Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the "Commissioner of Patents Washington, D. 0.
