EAR-PLATE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ADoNIs GEORGE ED- WARD LoWMAN, of the city of Winnipeg, in the Province of Manitoba, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ear-Plates, of which the following is the specification.

My invention relates to a plate attachable to the ear, and the object of the invention is to provide a light, durable plate which can be quickly and securely attached to the ear serving the purpose of an article of adornment as well as a means for giving an improperly or irregularly shaped car, a perfect form pleasing to theeye.

The invention consists essentially in the novel arrangement and construction of parts hereinafter more particularly described and later pointed out in the appended claims.

Figure 1 is a side view of an ear showing in dotted outline the position which the plate occupies when attached. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the plate. Fig. 3 is a reverse view of the plate to that shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 1 is a cross sectional view through the plate, the section being taken in the plane denoted by the line X X, Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a horizontal sectional view through the plate, the section being taken in the plane denoted by the line Y Y, Fig. 8, and looking toward the suspending hook or hanger.

In the drawing like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.

1 represents an ear of which 2 is the helix, 3 the lobe, 4 the concha, 5 the anti-helix, 6 the tragus, 7 the anti-tragus, and 8 the auditory opening.

9 represents an ear plate which comprises a body portion 10 supplied with an inwardly turned hook or hanger 11 and an extending neck 12 which terminates in a fanciful end 13. The body of the plate is shaped to receive the lobe 3 of the ear and the neck is pressed or bent to fit the rear portion of the helix which approaches the lobe, while the hook or hanger 11 is turned to pass over and around the a-nti-tragus 7 whereby the plate when applied is suspended from the ear practically entirely from the anti-tragus.

body portion 17 is bent in an ogee form and terminates in an eye 18. A catch 19 is placed on the body of the plate to receive the free end of the pin when the plate is in what mightbe termed, the clasped position, on the ear.

The peculiar shape of the pin just described conforms to the shape of the backs of the helix, anti-helix, concha, and lobe, and it is here to be noticed when the plate is applied to the ear and the pin closed, that the helix of the ear is clasped securely between the curved end 16 of the pin and the neck which, as already intimated, is bent in an opposite direction, and further that the plate cannot rise from the ear to release the hook from the anti-tragus owing to the manner in which the body portion of the pin is bent to fit the rear faces of the ear parts just referred to.

The plate can be ornamented by piercing, embossing, or studding with precious stones, or in whatever manner is required to suit the whimsical desires of the wearer. In the present instance it is shown as pierced. When marketed it will be shaped to con form to the perfect lobe so that when ap plied on an imperfectly shaped ear one will not be able to detect the irregularity. Of course it will be understood that the plate can also be made to order to fit any particular ear and in this instance a cast of the ear will be made and then the plate fitted to the cast. The eye 18 is provided so that one can hang an earring from the plate if desired.

What I claim as my invention is:

1. As a new article of manufacture an ear ornament comprising a plate shaped to receive the lobe of the ear and supplied with means for applying pressure on the back of the lobe when applied thereon, as and for the purpose specified.

2. As a new article of manufacture an ear ornament. comprising a plate shaped to receive the lobe of the ear when applied and supplied with an extending neck receiving a portion of the ear helix and being provided further with a means for applying pressure against the back of the lobe and the helix when applied, as and for the purpose specified.

-3. An ear plate having a body portion shaped to fit the lobe of the ear and supplied with a means for suspending it from the anti-tragus of the ear and further with an extending neck fitted to receive a portion of the helix of the ear, as and for the purpose specified.

A. As a new article of manufacture an ornamental plate adapted to fit over the lobe of the ear and to be suspended from the anti-tragus of the ear, and means for fastening the plate to the ear, as and for the purpose specified.

5. As a new article of manufacture a plate shaped to receive the lobe of the ear and provided with an extending neck receiving a portion of the ear helix, means for suspending the plate from the anti-tragus, and means for fastening the plate releasably to the ear, as and for the purpose specified.

6. As a new article of manufacture a plate shaped to fit over the lobe of the ear, and provided with an extending neckshaped to receive a portion of the helix of the ear, and

supplied further with a hanger which re-' ceives the-anti-tragus of the ear, and means for fastening the plate on the ear, as and for the purpose specified.

7. As a new article of manufacture a plate adapted to fit over the lobe of the ear and supplied with an extending neck shaped to receive a portion of the ear helix, and supplied further with a hanger passing over and around the anti'tragus of the ear, and a pin carried by the plate and securing it to the ear, as and for the purpose specified.

8. As a new article of manufacture a plate adapted to fit over the lobe of the ear and supplied with an extending neck shaped to receive a portion of the ear helix, and supplied further.with a hanger passing over and around the anti-tragus of the ear, a pin pivotally secured to the plate and a catch extending from the plate and receiving the free end of the pin, as and for the purpose specified.

9. As a new article of manufacture a plate adapted to fit over the lobe of the ear and supplied with an extending neck shaped to receive a portion of the ear helix, and supplied further with a hanger passing over and around the anti-tragus of the ear, a pin pivotally secured to the neck of the plate, and

a catch for the pin extending from the body of the plate, as and for the purpose specified.

10. As a new article of manufacture a plate adapted to fit over the lobe of the ear and supplied with an extending neck shaped to receive a portion of the ear helix, and supplied further with a hanger passing over and around the anti-tragus of the ear, a pin having one end pivotally secured to the rear edge of the neckand passing across the same and the body portion thereof passing across the body of the plate and terminating in an eye, said body portion being of an ogee shape, and a catch extending from the body portion and receiving the free end of the pin, as and for the purpose specified.

11. As a new article of manufacture a plate shaped to fit over the lobe of the ear and supplied withlan extending neck receiving a portion of the helix, and supplied further with a hanger passing over and :around the anti-tragus, and means clasping the neck ADONIS GEORGE EDWARD LOWMAN.
