To all whomfz't may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM LEE, a sub- {eat of the King of Great Britain and Ireand,residing at 101 Camberwell road, Cainberwell, London, England, have invented a h ew Adjustable Hat-Lining, of which the following is a specification, reference being jihad therein to the accompanying drawing. I My inventlon relates to an adjustable hat lining and more particularly to a lining for use in womens hats.

By my invention I aim to produce a lining of this character which may be adjusted to hats of different sizes and when the lining also constructed so as to permit adjustment a sectional view of a hat lining embodying of that portion thereof resting upon the coifl'ure so as to facilitate the fitting of the hat to the head of the wearer and adjust ment of the lining to accommodate it to different ways of dressing the hair and secure the effect of a handeau by means of a flexible lining.

The invention consists primarily in an adjustable hat lining oomposed'of a flexible fabric crown p )rtion having a hem formed at the base thereof, and gathered and closed at the top thereof, a rim wire mounted in said hem, and a flexible, non-elastic cord carried by said crown portion intermediate said hem and the top of the crown whereby a supplemental flexible rim engaging the widow is formed; and in such other novel features of construction and combinationof parts as are hereinafter set forth and described and more particularly pointed out in the claims hereto appended.

In the embodiment of my invention shown in the drawings, A. indicates the fabric .crown portion of the lining which may be of silk, satinet or any other desired flexible fabric. One edge of this fabric has a hem formed therein, and the other edge thereof is gathered and joined in any desired man $pecificat'lon of Letters Patent.

To simplify the structure of the lining, I secure said cord to the fabric by means of a tuck in saidiabric through which the cord is be quickly adjusted, thus facilitating the fitting of. the lining to the head of the wearer or its adaptation to difi'erent styles of coifi ures. A lining made in accordance with my inwention may be manufactured in standard sizes, and fitted to any hat or any head, by merely adjusting the length of the wire B when attaching the lining to the hat, or shortening or lengthening the loop of the drawing cord C after the lining is in place. The supplemental rim formed by the cord C, will permit the hat to be set at any angle upon the head, inasmuch as the hat is suspended by means of the lining and the engagement of said rim with the coifl'ure. Of

course hat pins must be used to hold the hat at the desired angle. The hair, however, need not be especially dressed to permit the hat to take the desired angle or have the desired fall.

it will he observed that the hat may be set at any angle and that this angle may be changed Toy a mere pressure of the hand without any necessity for a special lining to secure the desired angle, or a change in the adjustment of the supplemental rim to permit a change of the angle at which the hat sets.

The fiexibilit of the crown portion A will permit hat pins to readily pass therethrough. It is essential that the cord C be substantially non-elastic.

It is not my intention to limit the inven tion to the precise details of construction shown, it being apparent that such may be varied without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.

Having described the invention what I claim as new and desire to have protected by Letters Patent is 1. An adjustable hat lining composed of a flexible, fabric crown portion having a gathered top and a base adapted to be connected with a hat body adjacent the rim thereof, and means adapted to constrict said crown portion intermediate said top and said base whereby a supplemental rim adapted to rest upon the coiifure is formed.

2 An adjustable hat lining composed of a flexible, fabric crown portion having a gathered top, and a base adapted to be connected with a hat body adjacent the rim thereof, adapted to constrict said crown portion intermediate said top and said base, whereby a supplemental rim adapted to rest upon the coiifure is formed.

3. An adjustable hat lining composed of a flexible, fabric crown portion having a gathered top and a base adapted to be connected with a hat body adjacent the rim thereof, means whereby said. base may be ad'- and adjustable, I flexible means justed to var" the size thereof, and means adapted to constrict said crown portion intermediate said top and said base, whereby a supplemental rim adapted to rest upon the coift'ure is formed.

4:. An adjustable hat lining composed of a flexible fabric crown portion having a hem formed at the base thereof, and gathered and closed at the top thereof, a rim wire mounted in said hem, and a flexible, non-elastic cord carried by said crown portion intermediate said hem and the top of said crown whereby a supplemental rim engaging the coiffure is formed.

5. An adjustable hat lining composed of a flexible fabric crown portion, having a hem formed at the base thereof, gathered and closed at the top thereof, and having a continuous tuck running about same intermediate said base and said top, a rim wire mounted in said hem, means whereby the length of said wire may be adjusted, and a flexible, drawing cord seated in said tuck whereby a supplemental, adjustable rim engaging the coifi'ure is formed.
