Description

G. A. MQNAMAR. STORING AND-DISPLAY CASE. APPLICATION FILED JULY 31,1908.
Patented Oct. 20, 1908.
I V EN TOR.
cf/fium ATTORNEY.
WITNESSES:
UNITED STATES PATENT omnon.
GEORGE A. MoNAMAR, OF MERIDEN, CONNECTICUT.
STORING AND DISPLAY CASE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE A. MONAMAR, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and Improved Storing and Display Case, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to the class of devices more especially designed for the storing and display of articles of merchandise, and the object of the invention is to provide a device of this class having numerous features of advantage and utility.
One form of structure in the use of which the above objects may be attained is illus trated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view of the back of the case shown as folded and with an article of merchandise, as a comb, displayed thereon. Fig. 2 is a section on plane denoted by line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a view of the case in its open position. Fig. 4 is a View in section on the plane denoted by line 4:4E of Fig. 3.
My invention is not limited to a case for displaying any particular article of merchandise, but as it is readily applicable to cases constructed especially for the storing and display of combs, such a case has been selected by me for the purpose of illustration and description herein of my invention. My invention provides a case the members of the cover in which are sufiiciently stiff to support the structure in position to properly display the articles, and the structure of the pockets is such as to support the members of the cover to properly display the articles, the structure also having means whereby in the display of articles, specimens attached to the cover are not injured in such display.
In the accompanying drawings the numeral 5 denotes the back of the case and the numeral 6 the sides forming a cover, the sides being flexibly attached to the cover as by hinges 7. The back 5 is provided with holders 8, as herein shown, in the form of straps within which an article of merchandise, as a comb 9, may be secured. It will thus be seen that the comb is attached to the outer surface of the back so that when the case is folded as for storing within a glass showcase or the like, this display of an article on the back readily indicates the nature of the contents of the case.
A series of pockets 10 is secured to each of the sides or covers 6. These pockets may be Specification of Letters Patent.

of any desired form and construction, pref erably, as herein shown, of that construction known as the bellows-fold construction. A number of these pockets is secured to each side or cover, so that when they are extended as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, they form a support or standard for the sides or covers to firmly retain the latter in an upright position, as shown in Fig. 4. This is especially desirable for outside display purposes, and when the display is eflected in this manner the article 9 is so located that it is not scratched or marred by contact with a surface upon which the case may be laid, and therefore no deterioration by shop-wear in the articles used for display purposes.
. Were a single pocket employed the support of the case at the point as 11 would be so narrow that it would have no stability, the flexible connection as at 7 allowing the device to collapse. The series of pockets affords a sufiicient extent of surface at 11 to firmly support the device.
A flap 12 secured to the cover extends over the top of each of the pockets to prevent the articles from falling out when the device is folded from the position shown in Figs. 3 and i to the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
While I have shown the pockets as the means for supporting the case in its opened position, this being preferred by me, I do not desire or intend to limit myself to this means of maintaining a support for the case in its open position, as this construction may be departed from to a greater or less extent, as may also other features of construction of the case without avoiding the invention.
I claim- 1. A case including a back and sides hinged together to permit the sides to be opened rearwardly upon the back, means for retaining an article on the outer surface of the back, a pocket secured to each of the sides for the reception of articles of merchandise, and means affording a standard or support to maintain the sides in an upright position.
2. A case including a back and sides hinged together to permit the sides to be opened rearwardly upon the back, means on the outer surface of the back for receiving an article of merchandise, and a series of pockets secured to the inner surface of each side for the reception of articles of merchandise.
3. A casing including a back of stiff material to support the structure, sides hinged to' the back to be opened rearwardly thereupon, to maintain the structure in an upright posiand of a stifiness to support the structure, 11011 when the sides are opened rearwardly means upon the outer surface of the back for upon the back.
