MATHIAS PAVELETZ, OF OANBY, OREGON.
ANTIFRAUD-B OK.
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed April 24:, 1908. Serial No. 429,032.
Patented Oct. 13, 1908.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MATHIAS PAvELnTz, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oanby, in the county of Clackamas and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in AntifraudBoxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention contemplates certain new and useful improvements in paper boxes of that type designed particularly for packaging candy or the like, and the object of the inventionis an improved device of this character, which is designed to effectually prevent the user from opening the box to obtain the contents thereof, without mutilating the box so as to indicate that the candy is not in its original package, and thus prevent the box from being refilled with a cheaper grade of candy and placed upon the market under the name of the original manufacturer.
With this and other objects in view that will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain constructions, combinations and arrangements of the parts that I shall hereinafter fully describe, and then point out the novel features thereof, in the appended claims.
For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof, and to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved box, showing the latter sealed; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section thereof; and, Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the box, illustrating the method of opening the same.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawing, by the same reference characters.
My improved box is preferably constructed of heavy paper, paste-b0ard or the like, and embodies a flat base 1 upon which is mounted a box proper 2 which may be of any desired construction or design, except that it embodies the usual sides and a bottom independent of the base and terminating short of the edges thereof, so as to provide an outstanding marginal portion 3.
"same shape and design with an outstan ing The box proper 2 is designed to be closed by a cap or cover 4 which is substantially the as the box proper, except that it is slightly larger than the latter. This cap is formed at its lower edge with an outstanding flange 5 which is arranged to rest upon the marginal portion 8 of the base when the cap is in an operative position, and which is designed to be permanently secured to such marginal portion after the box has been filled, by rivets 6, or other suitable fastening me ans.
From the above description, in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be apparent that I have provided a simple, durable and efficient construction of anti-fraud box which may be effectually closed after be ing filled, and from which the contents can not be removed without cutting, or tearing the upper ortion of the cover as clearly illus trated in ig. 3, or without otherwise mutilatin the box to prevent its commercial re-use.
It will be observed that as the box dproper is a complete receptacle in itself, an has a bottom independent of the base, the box proper may be readily withdrawn from the remaining or mutilated ortion of the box, when the u per portion 0' the cover has been removed, t ereby permittin candy or other confection to be attractive y served in its original receptacle which is in nowise injured by the opening of the box.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
A device of the character described, comprising a flat base, a box proper mounted upon the base and embodying sides and a bottom independent of the base and terminating short of the edges thereof to provide an outstanding marginal portion, a cover incasing the box pro er and formed at its edge flange abutting against the marginal portion of the base, and means for permanently securing the flange to said marginal portion, as and for the purpose specified. I
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MATHIAS PAVELETZ. Witnesses;
J. L. EOKERSON, JOHN BANY.
