UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MAYHEW RICHMOND, OF PARKFIELD, CALIFORNIA.
WATCH AND KEY CHAIN GUARD.
Application filed. March 4, 1908.
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAYHEW RICHMOND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Parkeld, in the county of Monterey and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Watch and Key Chain Guards, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to a combined watch and key chain guard for trousers, overalls and the like and its object is to provide a simple, inexpensive, strong and durable device to which watch and key chains may be connected so that the articles attached to the chains cannot be lost or misplaced.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a pair of trousers illustrating the application of my invention thereto; and Fig. 2 is a detail longitudinal section taken on the plane indicated by the line 2-2 in Fig. 1. v
In the drawings 1 denotes a pair of trousers, overalls, or the like and 2 a metal ring which is secured, preferably upon the waist band of the trousers, between the watch pocket 3 and the hip pocket 4 and adapted to receive the snap hooks 5, 6 upon a watch chain 7 and a key chain 8. The ring 2 is attached to the trousers by a flexible strip 9 of fabric or the like which is preferably secured by metal rivets 10. The strip or strap 9 has Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 1, 1908.
Serial No. 419,204.
its ends turned in and the rivets 10 are passed through said ends so that the ring will be retained beneath the strip and between its fastened ends. The rivets 10 are preferably used when used upon overalls or the like, but
upon ordinary trousers said strips 9 are preferably sewed in place and made of the same material as the trousers.
My invention is especially designed for use upon overalls and trousers used by working men and it provides a simple, inexpensive and practical means for the attachment of the supporting chains of watches, keys and similar articles.
- Owing to its construction and the manner of attaching it, it will be seen that the device is exceedingly strong and durable and that there will be little or no chances of the ring being pulled or worn off.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is:
The combination with a pair of trousers or the like, of an attaching ring arranged upon the exterior of the trousers adjacent to the waist band, a flexible strip arranged upon the waist band and across one side of the ring and having its ends folded or doubled under, and rivets passed through said folded or doubled ends of the strip and the waist band of the trousers, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
MAYHEW RICHMOND.
Witnesses:
BERT L. FRETWELL, JOHN IV. FRETWELL.
