GEORGE KING, OF FREDERICK, MARYLAND.
Letters Patent No. 89,587, dated May 4, 1869.
IMPRovED sAsH-Locxw The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may con/cern:
Be itknown that I, GEORGE KING, of Frederick, in the county of Frederick, and State of Maryland, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sash-Locks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', in which- Figure l'represents an upright view oi' an ordinary -sash and frame, having one side cut away, to show the cam, .against which the edge of the sash works, so
that when the sash is pressed against the spring, it will come in contact with the cam, which will press the catch back in the socket, in the frame; and disengage the upper end of the catch from the notch in the sash, and allow the same to descend.
C is the metal spring, which is made fast to the frame, in which there is made a socket, to receive it, as is represent-ed by the dotted lines.
d represents the drop-bolt, which is set in a pocket, made in the sash, said bolt being made in the man C, the whole constructed and ner represented in the drawing, and having attached to its upper end, for the purpose 'of' its lower end outward.
E is a notch, made in the sash to receive the dropbolt.
When the sash is raised, the metal spring forces it toward the opposite side, and allows the knuckle-catch to drop into one of the notches in the sash, which holds it securely in position.
When it is necessary to lower, the sash must be pressed against the side of the frame having the spring and catch, which action will force the knuckle-catch and spring-back into their respective sockets, and will allow the sash to descend, and when the sash is down the weighton the upper end of the drop-catch will force the bolt int-o the notch in the sash, thus securing it from the possibility of being raised, except from the inside. r,
Having thus fully described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The knuckle-catch b, in combination with the spring arranged with relation to the sash 'A, as shownl and described.
