Letters Patent No. 83,773, dated, November 3, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT IN CARRIAGE-JACK.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it lmown that I HENRY L. HAMMOND, of the city of Providence, in t ze State of Rhode Island, have invented new and useful Improvements' in Carriage- Jacks and I do hereby declare the following to be a fulland exact description of the same, reference being had to the drawings that accompany and form a part of this speeioation, in which- Figure I is a view of the machine in perspective.

Letter A, main standard. Y
Letter B, base to support the 'standard A.
Letters O O', two plates to slide up and down in the slot D.
Figures l, 2, 3, and 4, anges on the plates C and C',
'-to guide them in their movements up and down.
E, a lever lying transvei sely between the plates OG', and extending somewhat on either side, as seen in Fig.
F, working-lever.
G, a stirrup, arranged-as seen in Fig. II, and forming a toggle-joint upon the end of the lever E, and a ,projection on the Workinglever, as shown.
H, a pin to' be placed in any one of the openings shown in the standard A, to support the plates -O C', and the levez' at any elevation desired.
The object of my invention is to provide a light, strong, compact, and durable carriage-jack, and vone that can be easily manipulated, and be readily adapted to all sizes of wheels. The plates G O andthe levers E, F, and G, should be niade'of iron, While the stand-k ard B may be of Wood.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-' The flange-plates C and C', in combination with the levers E and F, and the standard A, substantially as described, and for the purposes set forth.
