Description
@niet mw gsfwf @niet PHILIP KRAHER, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
Letters Patent No. 67,436, dated August 6, 1867.
IMPROVED ADJUSTABLE BOLSTER FOR MATTRESSBS.
 Beit known that I, PHILIP KRAHER, in the county of Hamilton, city ofg'Cincinnati, in the State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful improvement in an Adjustable Bolster to a. Mattress; and I do hereby dechire that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation ot` the sume, reference being had to the annexededrawings, making part of this specication, in which- Figure 1, perspective views of the mattress and bolster.
Figure Q, a cross-sectional ground plan of securing the bolster in the position desired.
Figure 3, :L cross-sectional elevation.
 A represents the mattress; B, the bolster; C, a segment of a circle which is attached to the bolster; H, a ring attached to the cord G, by which the pins E are relieved from the holes in segment C; F is a. pulley, around which cord Gr runs; e e are spiral springs to force thepins E into holes of. segment C when the bolster is in its desired position.
 To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation.
 I construct a frame, as in the ordinary way, for a spring mattress, say as high as the dividing line of the bolster. For the bolster I construct a. frame of the required size of the bolster. The frame of the bolster is hinged to the frame of the mattress at I. On the frame ofthe bolster are secured plates, forming a segment of `a circle, having a number of holes, ns shown at C, under the bolster, and within the mattress frame are frames or staples, I), which serves to guide the segment-C; they also serve as guides for pins E, which enter the holes in segment O and holds the bolster in its desired position. i
 By this arrangement the operation of elevating or depressing the bolster is as follows: The cord at H is pulled, and by it running around a. pulley secured to the opposite pin, then coming bach to the pin on the side pulled, both pins arerelieved et the same time from thc holes in segment Cv. When the bolster is moved to the position desired, the action of the springs ee forces the pins E in the holes of-segmcnt C, and secures the bolster in its desired position. The bolster may be secured in its desired position in a more simple manner, simply by inserting a pin through the frame-of the mattress on each side and through the holes in the segments. Iii-that manner but one side could be secured at a time.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
 1. The adjustable bolster B, operating on hinge I, with the segment or plate C, i`or the purpose as herein set forth;
 2. The cord G, the pulley F, the pins E, the staples or frames D, the springs C, all made and combined that both sides of thebolster may be operated the `same time.
' PHILIP KRAHER.
