JAMESr M. Jonas, or c Letters Patent No. 97,927,
oMMERe'E, MISSOURI.
dated December 14, 1869.
- IMPROVEMENT IN SAW-SETS.
The `Schedule referred to in these Letters Patentand making part of the same.
To all whoma't may concern K Be it known that I, JAMES M. JONES, of Commerce, in the' county of Scott, and in the State of Missourhhave invented new and useful Improvements in Saw-Sets; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, elem-,and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the let-ters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction of a machine for 4gauging or setting the teeth of saws, and in the arrangement of the devices hereafter' set forth `and explained.
Figure l is a side view of `my machine.
Figure 2 is'a pian-view of the same.
the table. f p
The re'ar standard B isslotted Vabout four-fifths of the eudsof the shafts I), play u'pl and down.
These sliding hearings eau be retained in their places height as to regulate the markers for the ordinary The standard Fi has two slots cut in it, ini which there are also placed two movablebeariugs for the shafts D, but these bearings do little more than tilt n p and down, in order to regulate themarkers.
Extending between the two standards, Band F, are thetwo shaftsv D, bymeans of which the markers G are operated. p
Each of these shafts is provided with two movable bearings, C and H, Iso that the'two markers can be These markers consist oftwo c 'linders ta ex-'in toy i g so as to mark the saws as they are passed between. lhe grooves are large upon' the rear end, and small By moving the ,outer ends of the shafts near together,
the largest cogs only will mark, but by moving' them far apart, thesmallest ones only mark. A
Extending on a level with the point' at which the two markers gear or meet, there is a table, L, which is supported by thel standards I. In the middle of this table there is an opening made, large enough to allow the markers 4to 'come in contact with each other.
Upon 'each side of the markersV there is placed a gauge,.N, sopas not only to guide the saws while being drawn through, but also to assist in gauging the v markers.
The motive-power is applied to the ends ofthe shafts D, which extend out, back otl the standard B; then,
scribed.
3. 'In combination with the markers G, the table L and guides N, substantially in the manner and for the purpose specified.
4. The arrangement of slotted standards B` and F, movablebearings C and H, markers G, table L, and gauges N, when all are combined to operate in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
. In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have' herenuto set my hand, this 27th day ofy March, 1869.
JAMES M'. JONES. Witnesses:
