Description
. l 5mm @met W. I. BLACKMAN, OF COLUMBUS, MISSISSIPPI.
Lette'rs Patent No. 89,380, dated April 27, 1869.
TOY-GUN.
iTlhe Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent ad making part of the sama To all lwhom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, IV. I, BLAGKMAN, of Columbus, Lowndes county, Mississippi, have invented a new and improved Toy-Gun; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descriptionv thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to that class of articles which is designed for childreus use and amusement; and consists of a barrel and stock, and rubber springs combined and arranged, so as to form a gun, the 'projectile being impelled by the recoil f the springs, as hereinafter described.
In the accompanying sheet of drawings- Figure 1 represents a vertical longitudinal section of the gun, showing the construction, the section being through the line y y of iig. 2.
Figure 2 is a horizontal longitudinal section through the line x x of fig. 1.
Similar let-ters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the barrel. B is the stock. They are fastened together in any suitable manner. C is a rod, attached to the knob I), which is guided at its entrance into the barrel by the plate e.
The end of this rod is enlarged, so as to ll the bore of the barrel, as seen at f.
g g represent rubber straps, of any desired size and strength, which are attached Vto the barrel inside the stock at one end, as seen at h h. Their other ends are attached to the knob I), as seen at i i.
These straps are in length (before being'drawn out or stretched) the same as the stock'on top of the barrel, so that they are enclosed within the stock.
When drawn back with the rod C the trigger J, which is forced upward by the small spring k, catches over the end of the rod, and holds the rod as seen in iig. 1.
In this position the gun is loaded L represents the projectile; it may be a rod, or in any other form, so that it will enter the barrel.
The rod is liberated by pulling the trigger, when the recoil of the springs g g will force the projectile from the barrel.
Having thus described my invention,
What `I claini as new, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, isy The barrel A, stock B, rod O, springs g g, and trigger-J, arranged and operating in combination, substantially as herein shown and described, for the purposes set forth. g
'lhe above speccatiou of my invention, signed by me, this 4th day of March, 1869.
