Description

Brwwwr @wat fitr.
CHARLES J. HUNTINGTON, OF ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS. Laim Patent No. 86,403, 1aed February 2, 1869.
IMPROVED BAG-FASTENER.
The Schedule referred 'co'ln these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it lnw/ l/ concern.-
. Be it known that I, CHARLES J. HUNTINGTON, of Rockford, in the county of Winnebago, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and improved Bag-Fastener; and I do hereby declarethat the following is a full and .exact description ofthe same, reference being had to the accompanying drawingapand to the letters of reference marked thereon.
This invention relates to an improved method of securing the mouths of bags, and consists, mainly, in the manner of holding theends of the cords or straps, by
means ofwhich the mouth ofthe bag is drawn together,
as will be fully described hereinafter.
In the drawings- Figure 1 represents a bag, with my invention` attacked.
Figure 2, a view ofthe same, detached.
To enable others skilled in the art to Which my invention belongs to make and use the same, I will nonr proceed to describe fully its construction and operation.
.A-represents a bag, which may be of any'suitable size or shape.
This is provided with the slits a a, through which pass the cords or straps B B. These cords are endless, and pass once about the mouth of the bag, one on each side, as shown in the drawings, they being suciently long to allow a certain portion to 'be free upon each side, when the mouth of the bag is fully distended.
C C represent lever or other buckles, suitably secured vupon each side .of the bag, by means of which the cords or straps are tightly heldwhen the bag is fastened.
The operation is as follows: v l
When the bag is filled, the straps or cords B B are tightly drawn, by which means the month of the bag is drawn together, and securely closed. By now drawing thevfreeend of the straps through the buckles, they are-tightly held, and the bag cannot be. opened.
By simply loosing the straps from the buckles, the mouth ofthe bag'may be easily opened.
The straps B B may be secured about the mouthV of the bag in any suitable manner, and other buckles may'also be used, if desired.
`I do not claim the use of buckles in themselves, nor the manner of attaching or arranging the cords or straps; but, having thus fully desoribedmy invention,
What I elaimfand desire to securey by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
The bag A, straps B B, and buckles C O, when combined, arranged, and operated substantially in,the manner herein described.
This specification signed and Witnessd, this lst day of December, 1868.
OHAS. J. HUNTINGTON.
