Description

parte 'einem 'RICHARD KNOTT, OF SUISUN CITY,CALIFORNIA.
Lette/rs Patent No. 90,559, dated Ma/y 25, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IIN' STARE-FULLER.
-oww The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it ma/y concer-n:
Be it known that I, RICHARD Knorr, of Suisun Gity, county of Solano, State of California, have invented an Improved Stake-Puller; and I do hereby declare the following description and accompanying drawings are sufficient to enable any person skilled in the art orscience to which it most nearly appertains, to make and use my'said invention or improvements, withoutl further Iinvention or experiment.
The obj ect of my invention is to provide an improved device for pulling stakes, and more especially for drawing the iron pins which are used for securing borsepowers to the ground; and it consists of a level', having at one end a ring, with a hole through it sufficiently large to pass down over the stake One side of this ring is formed into aclip, which is pivoted to the end of the lever. A bar of metal is also pivoted by a similar attachment near the end of the lever, forming a level' of the first class.
To more fully describe my stake-puller, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, and letters marked thereon, forming part of this specification, of which- Figure 1 is a side view;
Figure 2 is a bottom view.
A is a bar of iron, to one end of which is loosely attached a ring, B.
The hole in this ring is large enough to allow an ordinary-sized stake to be easily passed through it.
A short bar, C, is pivoted to the lever, near the end to which the ring B is attached, and .serves as aV fnlc-rum.
The opposite end of the lever is made in to a suitable form .to be easily grasped by the hand.
To operate the device, the ring is first slipped down over the stake to be dr'awn, and the fulerum, or bar C, placed upon some solid body, in a convenient position, when, by bearing down upon the opposite end or handle ofthe lever, the ring is turned sideways, causing it to bind against the pin -on opposite sides and hold firmly.
If the handle of the leveris then forced down by applying sulicient power, the pin will be drawn partly out, when the ring may be again lowered, and the same operation performed until the 'pin is entirely drawn from the ground. l i
With this device I am able, by two or three simple movements, to draw a pin from the ground, no matter `how firmly it may be driven, causing a great vsaving of time in removing horse-powers when it is necessary to draw stakes,` as one man can operate the machine and store away the stakes while the horses are being removed from the power, leaving everything freeto be taken up and transferred to any place desired.
Having thus describedrmy invention,
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combinationwith the lever A, and its fulcrum, v the ring B, pivoted at one side tothe end of said lever,
substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
In Witness whereof, I have hereunto set my band and seal RICHARD KNOT'I. [1.. s.] Witnesses:
J. C. HINCKLEY, L. P. MARSHALL.
