TOY-BOW.

v w The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.

To all whom it may concern:

\'Be it known that I, FREDERICK W. J UDD, of New Britain, in the. county of Hartford, and State of Gonnecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Toy-Bows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descriptionthereo, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making a part of this specification, which drawing is a perspective view of my invention.

My invention consists in constructing toy-bows of an inflexible material, and provided with a suitable handle and barrel, and attaching an elastic cord to the same for a bow-string, which cord has the requisite spring to throw the arrow.

I construct the bow a, barrel b, and handle c, all of one piece of cast-metal, and shape the bow a so as to give it the appearance of a spring-bow.

Near the centre of the bow a,'I form a hub, d, which is'afterward drilled to make the barrel b for guiding the arrow;

If desired to make the barrel avery long, it is cheaper to insert a tin tube, e, to lengthen it, than it is to make it all of cast-metal.

The insertion of the elastic cordf, completes the construction of the toy.

If desired, the bow a can be made of cast, malleable, or other iron, but ordinary' cast-iron will answer every purpose.

By my invention, I produce an old toy in a new and improved form, which can be furnished at a smaller cost than the old toy. As'the spring is Wholly in the bow-string, the occasional substitution of 'a new cord will make this a very durable toy.

By providing a handle, the ngers of ythe sportsman will not be in' his way when he takes aim.

' By providing it with a barrel, the arrow can be driven with greater accuracy.

I do not claim the use of an elastic cord for throwing projectiles, as applied to any other toyA or toys; but

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let- The combination of the cast-metal bow a, barrel b, hub d, tube e, and elastic cord f, the whole combined and arranged as herein set forth. I
