IMPROVEMENT IN -GUN-sranrs.

The Schedule referred to in these Lettera Patent and making part of the same -MOH#- To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY B. BARE/2n, of Scott, in the county of Cortland and in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Sights for Guns; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon making apart of this specification.

The nature of my invention consists in the construction and `arrangement of adjustable sights for guns, so as to combine the open sights with peep and pin-sights, as will be hereinafter fully set forth.

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same,'I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal vertical section of the rear sight.

Figure 2 is a vertical cross-section of the same.

Figures 3 and 4 are diti'erent views of the forward Sight.

A represents the back sight, consisting of a circular frame, with a screw-rodibr fastening in the gun.

This frame has an opening, as shown 'in vdotted lines in fig. 1, and within this frame is placed a wheel, a, which turns in suitable grooves in the frame, and is held from below by a spring, b, at any position it may be set.

The ends of the spring b are secured in the frame. One side of the wheel c isopen, with a notch, c, forming the open sight.

There is a knob, d, on each side of the wheel a, which project through the openings in the frame, and rest in one corner thereof. By the use of these knobs the wheel'can be turned till the knobs are on the other side or corner of the opening in the frame, when the solid portion of the Wheel williill the opening in the frame.l In this solid portion of the wheel a. is a hole, fi, thus forming the peep-sight.

The forward sight B consists of a turn-table, f, pivoted to a bar, g, theend's of which lap over the turntable, -to form guides for the same.

Between the bar g and table f is placed a spring, k, which holds the table in any position it may bc set, and prevents it from wearing loose.

InV the center of the turn-table f is a pin, fm, and two projections or lugs, n n, are placed on a line with said pin, one on each side,`the said lugs or projec-A tions n n being of the same shape as the common sights. The whole is covered by a guard, p, open on all four sides.

On the under side of the turn-table is a pin, s, for stopping the table.

It will thus be seen that a combined open sight and globe and pin-sight is produced, the change being effected by merely turning the wheel a and turn-table j'.

These sights are very convenient and durable.

Having thus fully described my invention,

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is` l 1. The wheel a, constructed as described, with notch e, hole t, and knobs d d, and operating within a circular frame to form a combined openand peep-sight, substantially as herein set forth.

2. In combination with the adjustable and' convertible sight a, constructed as described, the spring b, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.

3. The turn-table f, provided with pin m, lugs n n, guard p, and pin s, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth..

4. In combination with the matter above claimed,

the spring 7c, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.

5. The combination of the two sights, A and B, constructed as described, so as to have the open sights and the peep and pin-sights combined, substantially as herein set forth.
