IMPROVEMENT IN EAMES FOR HARNESS.

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the lame.

To all whom it ma/y concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. BUs'rIN, of Watertown, in the county of Middlesex, and State-of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement inthe Construction of Hames for Harness; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specication, in which- Figure 1 is a front or face view of one part of a pair of draught haines;

Figure 2 is au edge or side view of same;

Figure 3 is a front view of one part of a pair of carriage haines;

Figure 4 is an edge view of same; and

Figures 5 and 6 are transverse sections of the haines a: x y y, gs. 1 and 3,- showing the plane of section.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several iigures.

My invention consists in constructing haines wholly of metal, or part metal and part Wood, with a projecting plate, having eyes for attaching the clip or tug, by

A, gs. 1 and 2, represents onepart or half of a pair of draught-llames. These haines have a ianch, c, upon them on their outer edges, said flanches projecting at a right angle from the bodies of the haines.

The haines A have eyes, d d, attached to them at the junctions of the projections b with the anches c, and the haines and links e are secured between these eyes by a pin, f, the outer-ends of the links having rings g attached to them, the traces being secure'd to these rings, or if tug-straps are used, 'they maybe attached directly to pin, or bolt f. y

The projections b prevent the collar from being worn, as the links of a trace-chain or a tug-strap cannot come in contact with it, thus protecting the co1- lar from wear by the traces or tug, and serving a valuable purpose.

Figs. 3, 4, and 5, show the ordinary way of attaching traces or tugs to a haines, Without my protectingplate b, which may be cast with the llames, or it maypurpose specified. l
