Description

1 i -d1tt1ell Sintra twat @rita JoHNgLQWooDEN, or eREENsBURe, literaria.`
Letters Patent No. 100,701, dated March 8, 187
Y :Mpnovnn coLLARANn EAMES.
The Schedule` referred tQ' in these Lettera Patent and making part of the same:
To all whom 'it mail concern: l Beit known that I,.JOHN L. WOODEN, of Greensburg, in the county of Decatur, and State of Indiana, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Combined Collar and-Harnes; and.I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact de scription of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings making a. part of this specification, and to the letters l and gures of reference markedthereon.V
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of my invention in full.
Eignre-2 is a front view of the metal hames.
Figure 3 is a detached view ofthe stopjoint. y
Figure 4 representsa modification of the methodY of attaching the fastening-strap to the metal haines.
My invention relates to harness, and consists,
mainly, in` combining together the collar and hamesV in such a manner as t0 form a serviceable, durable,
`,and elegant article of harness.
' The letter A of the drawings designates the collar, y
covered and padded in the usual manner.
Between the facing and padding are placed themetal llames B B, securedtogether at the bottom by a hinge-joint, c, whose action is limited by the shoulder l `e insuch a manner that the hames cannot beopened further than is necessary to slip the collar over the i `neck ofthe horse. i
The `ends of the` buckle-straps, by which the collar is fastened together at the top, are riveted, asiat es,
or otherwise fastened to the metal haines, and then stitched to the leather covering-in the manner shown.
Loops g g or eyes and clips are attached tothe haines for `the tugs.
Sometimes I propose to make openings in the leather facing and to plate the surface of the metal thus brought to View. l
The parts are made usually very light, no more padding being used than is v necessary to protect -the breast of the horses, the metal plates B B servingl tu keep the collar in form. v
My invention is designed to be alight, durable, and serviceable article of harness. It is readily adjusted to the horse, and when .taken o' cannot be spread beyond a certain point, regulated by the stop-joint c.
Thus, the motionnof the lower bend ofthe collar is not suicient to cause the leather parts to wear and `break away.
" What I claim as my invention, and desire tosecnre
