Letters Patent No. 89,147, dated A10/rtl 20, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN SASH-HOLDER.
To all lwho-m 'it 'may conce/rn:
Be it known that I, E. W. HAVEN, of Brandon, county of Rutland, and State of Vermont, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Sash- Fasteners; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making' a part of this specication, inwhich- Figure 1 is a perspective View, showing the fastener attached to the casing of the window, and applied to the support of the sash A.
Figures 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7, show various parts separately.
This invention consists in the peculiar construction and operation of the fastener, as hereinafter described.

The plate @having the slot m and the projection w, is fastened to the casing of the window, by means of screws, or otherwise, and the levers f g fastened on the top of the plate a., by means of the screws (l d.
The end of the lever f next to the sash A has a wide flange, fn, which constitutes one of the stops.
The lever g is forked, as shown in g. 3, to fit around the screw or pivot It, which is attached to the cam b', which cam constitutes the other stop.
This cam has a projection, p, shown in `iig. 4, on the under side, corresponding' to and working in the slot, m, in the plate a.
When in operation, as shown in fig. 1, the cam b adjusts itself tothe face of the sash, so that it presses flat'upon it, and the sash is not marred by it, but is held securely,.until released by pressure upon the levers f and g.
y The elliptical spring s, placed between the levers f and g, presses the outer ends apart, and holds the' stops vfirmly against the sash.
By pressing the 'outer ends together, the stops are raised slightly, and the sash released.
To fasten the sash down, it is only necessary to cut a slight notch in the sash, as shown at t, secured by a c screw immediately below the notch.
