BERNHARD BRAND, OF BRAILA, ROUMANIA.
COLLAR-BUTTON.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 23, 1908.
Application filed October 13, 1905. Serial No. 282,625.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it knownthat I, BERNHAED BRAND, a subject of the German Emperor, and resident of Braila, Roumania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collar- Buttons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to buttons for collars I and the like and its object is to provide a button of this kind which may be readily adjusted in place and used for different thicknesses of fabric.
Another object of the invention is to provide means whereby the collar button is adapted to readily hold a necktie.
With invention consists in the combination of parts as hereinafter described and articuarly specified in the appended claims and shown in the annexed drawings in which Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improved collar button, Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the button, this figure showing also a side view of a necktie secured to the button, Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of the button this section being taken on a plane forming right angles with that of Fig. 2. v
My improved collar button comprises a base plate a made of any suitable material such as metal, bone or the like. To this base plate is secured in any preferred manner for instance as in the form shown on the drawin by means of a central stud a made integra with the said base plate, a central shank formed by a coiled spring I), the different coils whereof are very close to one another so as to form substantially a straight shank. The opposite end of this shank is secured to. the stud portion a of a substantially spherical head a.
As shown in the drawing, two ins t and 7c are fixed into suitable diametrica ly opposite holes bored in the head a, the arrangement being such that these pins are horizontal when the button is put in place on the shirt or the like. To these pins are hinged two these and other objects in view, the,
flaps c and (1 having each the form of half an annulus so as to form when in'the osition shown in Fig. 1 an annulus surroun ing the spherical head 6. The said head is rovided with a diametrical hole f being at riglit angles to the pins i and k, this hole being to receive, when the button is in lace on the shirt, a fastening hook g secure to the backside of a necktie h which it is intended to secure to the button.
When the button is intended to be inserted into the button hole, the two flaps c and d are raised so as to be applied on one another and to project forward from the head 6; after the latter has been inserted into the button hole the flaps c and d are again lowered thus retaining the button in place. Furthermore when the fastening hook g of the necktie has been inserted into the hole f, it prevents the flaps c and d from being folded again.
It will be readily seen that owing to the yielding roperties of the coiled spring I) forming t e shank of the button, my button can be employed with fabric of difierent thicknesses.
Having now fully described my said invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a collar button the combination with a base plate having a central projecting portion, of a coiled spring secured to the said central portion of the base plate so as to project at right angles from the base plate, a
knob secured to the free end of the said coiled spring, two flaps hingedly connected to one another and to the said knob, a hole provided in the said knob and intended to receive a fastening hook secured to the cravat, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
BERNHARD BRAND.
