BUTTONHOLE FOR WEARING-APPAREL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 11, 1911.
Application filed July 1, 1910. Serial No. 569,953.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES W. T. DA- VIES, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at New York, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buttonholes for Tearing-Apparel, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to buttonholes for articles of wearing apparel.
The present invention has for its object the provision of a guarded buttonhole of novel arrangement and construction for use on any article of wearing apparel where it is desired to button together different parts, its purpose being to confine the bar, link, shank, or shaft of a stud or button, after penetration of its enlarged head, to a restricted space and, also, to provide a much larger aperture than usual for the easy entry of an enlarged head, with subsequent guarding of the aperture and seeurement of the bar, link, shank, or post of the fastener therein.
The invention may be applied to various articles of wearing apparel and variously modified, but it is particularly adapted for use on cufis.
The invention may be carried out in the manner set forth hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 shows a cuff provided with a tab attached to one margin of the buttonhole and thrown back; and Figs. 2 and 3, modifications of Fig. 1.
The cuff 1 has a narrow buttonhole 13 extending inwardly from its margin to receive the shank of the cuff button and there is provided, in any suitable manner, a tab 14, 15, or 16 at one margin of the buttonhole which is adapted to be folded across the buttonhole after the entry therein of the cuff button shank, to retain the cuff button in locked position at the inner end of the buttonhole.
Having thusdescribed my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let'- ters Patent, is:
An article of wearing apparel provided with an open-ended buttonhole having its sides spaced apart throughout its length, said article having a fixedly secured flexible member positioned and constructed to overlap the buttonhole and define a constricted portion thereof and to closely lock the shank of a stud within the constricted portion.
In testimony whereof, I hereunto aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES W. T. DAVIES.
