DOOR-STOP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 16, 1908.
Application filed March 2, 1908. Serial No. 418,695.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMAN PAWSAT, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Sheboygan, in the county of Sheboygan and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door- Stops; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
The invention consists in certain peculiarities of construction and. combination of parts hereinafter particularly set forth with reference to the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims; the object of said invention being to provide simple, econom ical, strong and durable door-stops, attachable to either vertical or horizontal supports, each stop in its preferred form comprising a buffer element and a bracket element in detachable connection, the buifer element be ing connected to an end or a side of the bracket element accordingly as the stop is employed in connection with a vertical or horizontal support.
Figure 1 of the drawings represents one of my improved door-stops partly in section and attached to a vertical support, a fragment of adoor being shown in plan view against the stop; Fig. 2, an elevation of the stop partly in section attached to a horizon tal support, a fragment of the door being illustrated in elevation against said step, and Fig. 3, a perspective view of said stop having the buffer element thereof in the same position as in Fig. 2. v
Referring by letter to the drawings, the bracket element of my improved door-stop that is made from a single comparatively narrow strip of sheet-steel bent to form a figure having flat faces 5, c, at right angles to each. other, converging and diverging stretches (1 preferably joined by a rivet c, and outwardly extending ears f having apertures therein through which to drive nails or screws by which the bracket is fastened to a vertical or horizontal support. The end face I) or a side face 0 of the bracket is provided with an aperture for the engagement of the shank of the bufier element h of the stop, accordingly as said stop is intended for connection with a vertical or horizontal support, the buffer-shank being secured in any suitable manner to said bracket. However this shank is preferably a screw for the engagement of a nut i that is run on the same against the bracket, as herein shown.
It is preferable, as herein shown, to aperture the end face 6 and one of the side faces 0 of each bracket and to employ a buffer having a screw-shank for engagement with one or the other of the apertures and a clampingnut, whereby the same stop can be used on either a vertical or horizontal support as may be most desirable. Being organized for attachment to a horizontal support, the floor of a room for instance, the device may be set to stop a doory' at any preferred distance be tween closed and full open, but its attachment to a vertical support such as a baseboard or wall will permit of said door being swung back approximately full distance.
I claim:
1. A door-stop comprising a strip of metal bent to form a bracket attachable to a support and having an end and a side face thereof each provided with an aperture, a buffer having a screw shank engageable with one or the other of the apertures, and a clamp-nut run on the shank.
2. A door-stop comprising a strip of metal bent to form a bracket having end and side faces at right-angles to each other, converging and diverging stretches and outwardly extending ears, these ears being apertured for the passage of fastening devices; and a buffer having a shank secured to one or the other of said faces of the bracket.
3. A door-stop comprising a strip of metal bent to form a bracket having end and side faces at right-angles to each other, converging and diverging stretches and outwardly extending ears these ears being apertured for the passage of fastening devices a rivet connecting said stretches of the bracket, and a buffer having a shank secured to one or the other of said faces of the bracket.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand at Sheboygan, in the county of Sheboygan and State of isconsin in the presence of two witnesses.
HERMAN Pi VVSAT.
Witnesses:
EWALD PAWSAT, Jon BIEBER.
