DOOR-CHECK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 24, 1906.
Amilioatiou filed April 8, 1905. Serial No. 254,614.
To all whmn it may concern:
Be it known that I, BERT GoNYo, a citizen of the United States, residing at Trudean, in the county of Franklin and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Checks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to door-checks, and more particularly to those of the buffer type.
It has for its object to produce a device of the character aforementioned which shall be extremely simple in construction, neat in appearance, cheap to manufacture, and easily attached to and detached from the floor.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my doorcheck, showing it attached to the floor. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section thereof.
The numeral 1 designates the body of the device, which is rounded off at one end, as seen at 2, and provided at the other end with a head 3 of the usual shape. A recess 4 is rovided in the head 3, into which a pin 5 is itted. The ti 6 of the pin 5 is covered by rubber 7, whic forms the buffer. The body 1 is provided with an opening 8, through which a screw 9 or like fastening passes to secure the door-check in position.
This device is designed more particularly to be attached to a floor in such a position as to prevent the knob from butting against and marring the wall. When in position, its rounded edges give aneat appearance to the device and at the same time prevent its catching upon and tearing curtains, draperies, or any other fabric with which it may come in contact. Another important feature of my invention resides in the fact that only one screw may be used to hold it in place and that therefore it is an extremely simple matter to remove it from or place it in position. This has the further advantage that if for any reason it should be desired to remove the device it will not leave a plurality of unsightly holes.
While my invention has been described as being attached to a floor as a door-check, it is obvious that it might be used as a guard for furniture or utilized in other manners without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In actual manufacture the door-check is preferably made from a solid block of wood or similar material the under side of which is flat, so as to rest fiat upon the floor, and the head 3 forms an integral knob-like extension at one end of the body 1 aforesaid. The construction shown is therefore very cheap from the standpoint of manufacture and effectively accomplishes the desired purposes for which it is devised.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article, a door-check consisting of a solid body flat upon its under side and rounded at one end toward the flat under side, a head extending from the other end of the body and consisting of a knob-like integral extension projected from the upper portion thereof, and a buffer at the outer end of the head, the body being provided with a vertical opening therethrough to receive a fastening for attachment of the door-check to a suitable support.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
