ALBERT oTIs McGQY, or YERSAILLES, ILLINOIS...
B REL-SHELF.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that 1, ALBERT OTIs McCoY,
citizen of the United States, residing at Verb sailles, in the county of Brown and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Barrel-Shelves, of which the to owing is a specification.
This invention relates to holders, and 1n ore particularly to shelves, and has for its object to provide a shelf adapted for attachment to a barrel or other cylindrical receptacle, to receive thereupon a ba to be filled from the receptacle and being a so adjustable to adapt it for attachment to square receptacles.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description and it will be understood that changes in the specific structure shown and described may be made within the scope of the claims without departin from the spirit of the invention.
In t e drawin s forming a portion of this specification anc in which like numerals of references'mdicate similar parts in the sev' eral views, Fi ure 1 is aperspective view of ed with the present invention; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a drawer provided with the present invention; Fig. 3 is a bottom plan of the shelf adjusted for engagement with a barrel; Fig. 4 is a bottom plan of the shelf adjusted for engagement with a drawer; Fig. 5 is a transverse section on line 5-5 of Fig. 3, taken through the bolts.
Referring now to the drawings, the present invention comprises a board '5 having its rearward edge curveddnwardly between its ends to present a concave surface 6 to conform to the curvature ofa barrel. Strengthening battens 7 are secured to the under face of the board 5 at the ends thereof'and have vertical passages 8 formed therethrough, in which there are engaged depending bolts 9, the heads 10 of which lie in enlargements 11 at the upper ends of the passages 8. Metallic bars 12 have longitudinal passages 13 formed therein in which the bolts are engaged for sliding and pivotal movement of the bars thereu on, and clamping nuts 14 are engaged wit 1 the bolts below the'bars, for operation to hold the latter a ainst movement. Rearwardly of the boar 5, the bars 12 are "bent upwardly as at 15, then rearwardly as at 16, then downwardly as at 17 to form hooks 18for engagement over the upper edge of a barrel A or drawer B, as shown.
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed July 16, 1907. Serial No. 384,020.
Patented June 16, 1908.
As will be understood fron'rthe foregoin the nuts 14 may be loosened in order that the the rearward face of the board to be engaged with the edge of the drawer B or other square receptacle, or the bars may be set at an angle and retracted for engagement with the edge of the barrel A, or other cylindrical receptacle, as will be understood.
It will be understood that the board is designed to receive bags or other receptacles to be filled from the barrel or drawer.
iat is claimed is: I
1. In a detachable shelf, the combir ation with a board, of arms connected with the board for pivotal and sliding movement with respect thereto, said arms extending transversely of the board, said board having a concave rearward edge, said arms having their rearward ends hooked for engagement with the ed e of a receptacleysaid arms being shiftab e in. their pivotal movement to move their hooked ends bodily in arcs longitudinally of the board, and being shiftable in their sliding movement to move their hooked ends toward and away from the concave edge of the board, said wardly of the concave edge of the board.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination with a board having a concave edge, of battens secured against the under face of the board, said battens having passages formcd therethrough, arms disposed against the under faces of the battens, bolts engaged in the battens and extending therebelow, said arms having slots in which the downwardly extending portions of the bolts are engaged for pivotal and sliding movement of the arms upon the bolts, nuts engaged with the bolts to hold the arms upon the bolts, said nuts being operable to impinge against thearms to hold the latter against movement, said arms having hooks lying outwardly of the concave edge of the oard. In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
